I dont know wtf they are doing at this point and judging by their multiple home screens neither do they. Funny shit, ububtu, fedora, suse, and a few others look WAY better. Fuck apple although I do respect their marketing as they created a whole generation of mindless consumers. |

Even the task manager is new and improved. I did have to disable the built in virus protection. It slows down the disk access too much. But all anti-virus programs do that. I prefer to do periodic scans rather than use real time protection. I have seen it crash once. No blue screen, but something similar. I don't understand the nostalgia for XP. W7 made XP obsolete. W8 makes W7 obsolete. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28886101 I have had all the windows from 3.1 to 7. BRING BACK XP. Yes. I have XP on my desktop. Love it. Also Like Win 7 a lot. Vista made me an insomniac for 2 months. What a wast of money that was. I have an old homebuild system with 2000 Pro. can't do much on it anymore. But damn it's stable. I have a few old games on it, like simcity4 and simcity3000, GTA, Duke Nuke 'em and Doom and a flight sim. It still works great for internet though. I do remember 95 and all the lines to buy it. |

I do plan on installing a start menu though, for certain! This site has plenty to choose from, most of them free. I'm sure there are others online if none of the start menus listed here are to your liking. [link to www.geek.com] |

Install this then: [link to classicshell.sourceforge.net] Classic Shell is a collection of features that were available in older versions of Windows but were later removed. It has a customizable Start menu and Start button for Windows 7 and Windows 8, it adds a toolbar for Windows Explorer and supports a variety of smaller features. (yeah, its free!) |

We shouldn't have to fix a brand new product. The marketing team was replaced by a bunch of MTV ferrbie grooming hipsters. They degraded windows to the level down to mac. We need functionality not eye candy. That's why windows dominated the office/government market for years. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 9788321 12/01/2012 11:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I installed the 8 start menu and disabled the pointless bloat-ware, ad-ware, spyware, called metro.... Then I realized the hype about it being faster was complete bullshit. It's actually quite a bit slower than windows 7 for basic tasks like navigating / copying files / opening my favorite browser. I saw the uselessly bloated ribbon in explorer, shitty window management, lack of aero peek, ugly aero themes, and lack of any customization in desktop mode. I went back to windows 7 and I couldn't be more satisfied. |
