Stay north of Atlanta, but close enough to get there easily. North GA near the TN line is wonderful.

what's the vibe like in Georgia?
bunch of country bumkins?
or is there culture, art, hip trendy stuff?
 Quoting: Salt

I'm not from or live in Georgeia, but Atlanta is a deceptively large city with just about anything you could want. Way too big for my taste, but then, that is why it is so big. People keep trying to live on the edge of a big city and it just grows and grows and grows outward down here in the South as opposed to skyward up North.

I'm partial to my home state of Tennessee of course, but if you are moving and want high society culture, you can certainly find it in the South East. Best thing about places like Atlanta or Nashville, or Mobile, or any other good sized city in the South East is the balance of culture and laid back affordable peace you can have.

I live in Middle Tennessee and we bought our 3 bedroom house on 2 acres of land in 1993 for $69k. I get to work in the city and live in the country in a state that doesn't tax my income. When people marvled at why I would live out in the sticks I just told them how much my house note was. Back then it was only about $525/month. We refinanced to a 15 year to pay it off quicker and popped it up to $750. It's paid off now. Life is good down here in the South.
 Quoting: Resister

So true! I'm kinda the opposite- I live in the middle of Nashville and our business is in Wilson county. It is a beautiful piece of land with cows for neighbors, but super close to the interstate. Love it!

Rents and cost of living in my area are suddenly so ridiculously expensive, it has become blaringly clear that a relocate is inevitable. But, where to relocate too?

I am sick and tired of hard winters.
Sick and tired of being broke all the time.

This economy is killing me.

My son and his fiance are moving to Georgia. The fiance says it's gorgeous there.

Op,

Try looking into states based upon unemployment statistics if you are looking to move however sorry you might have to embrace the cold climate and in this economy adapting to harsher climates seems to be the key to making it.

Easy for me to say I suppose as if you are not used to the cold it can be oppressive much as some of us consider hot humid climates hard to endure.

Yeah, screw the cold!! I'm from Texas and sometimes it is too cold for me here-- not often, but I'm super cold-natured. Atlanta is about 3.5 hour drive from here and somewhat warmer, but you couldn't pay me to live in Atlanta.

Northwest Ga is a wonderful area. There can be a large Hispanic population depending on where you are. I've lived here and the surrounding areas all my life. Went to college in Rome and yes, it is a charming city. Don't try Atlanta unless you like the rat race and the farther south you go, more heat and bugs. It's getting to the point that no matter where you live the government is beginning to control your lives and want every penny they can suck out of you. That includes local governments.

Since you already live in Colorado -

2. Pueblo, Colo.
Cost of Living Index: 85.9
Metro Population: 154,371
Median Household Income: $39,570
Average Home Price: $197,037

This economic hub of southeastern Colorado is just 103 miles from Denver but has a much lower cost of living. Homes in Pueblo are cheaper, on average, than in the rest of the state -- and nation. Pueblo residents also benefit from Colorado’s low state income-tax rate of 4.64% of federal taxable income.

Beeches again, OP.

I like the wildness of rural northwest Georgia.

 Quoting: beeches

explain?
 Quoting: Salt

The landscape is what I mean. It is a rolling hilly area that is not extreme in any way, lovely to look at,

but remote and private.

The people are nice as far as I can tell - in a thread yesterday about the georgia guidestones, I told how we drove hundreds of miles, no incidents, from Delaware to Georgia, got off first I-85 exit in Georgia to see the Guidestones, and bam
within minutes a rock hit our van, and then an accident happened seconds ahead of us.
When I got out to help the people involved in the accident, they turned down help with a polite "No ma'am."

To this day, I think that showed a lot of self-possession, to be so polite right after having your car knocked off the road.
I think any GLPer would want to see the guidestones, but that is a different thread - I found them a mockery of the Ten Commandments.

But Georgia itself? - a girl could do a lot worse!
Now is the time.
