Hvac help
Heater is acting erratically ... Main burner comes on runs for a few seconds then shuts off then blower kicks on immediately after burner shuts down. It's happening repeatedly ... I installed a new circuit board and thermostat but the problem still persists !! It's fn cold and I'm tiredfighter1

If its a gas furnace it sounds like then thermocouple is no good. Luckily they are cheap and easy to replace. The thermocouple will only allow the Gas valve to stay open only if flame is detected, thus preventing raw gas from flooding in should the flame go out. Get a thermocouple at Home Depot, google your furnqce brqnd for the right type but there are plenty of generic models that will fit, just make sure you get one long enough. Cost is around twenty or thirty dollars.

If it's fuel oil you need to clean the injectors...otherwise I need more info...

Actually he said the main burner comes on for a few seconds then cuts out so it's not a thermal couple The thermal couple keeps the pilot lit if there is no pilot then the burner cant light Most furnaces today do not have pilots they have electronic ignition

LOL he's definitely green if he is a tech and the first thing he did was to replace a circuit board and tstat. The problem is definitely a flame sensing problem if its gas or if oil it could be a oil/air mixure problem, a cad cell or primary control

Re: Hvac help
It could be in the press switch also I would jump the two leads together on press switch see if it continues. make sure the wires into the plug on your circit board are not pulled to tight. clean off the flame sensor again. It maybe even in the gas valve if you have the white plug with three wires into it, those valves suck.

Re: Hvac help
If its fuel oil, clean the light sensor. It looks like a button covered in black soot. It may not see the light from the flame.

Toothbrush. will have to open area, pull back motor, its by the spray valve.

Generally the blower wouldn't be involved though so good skill.

P.S. Air in line will cause immediate shut down, you would have to bleed from left side of motor. Again the blower shouldn't be involved.

This is for educational purposes only and should not be considered as end all be all answers.

No led light on the circuit board. It's natural gas ...
The furnace just ran for about 5 minutes and went back to cycling off and on...maybe I'll order a new flame sensor. Bryant heater spock

Re: Hvac help
order a universal press switch it's cheaper, than factory one. If it runs for five mins very well could be press switch. make sure your filters clean too.

Now that you said it a bryant is it a 3 wire pick and hold ignition? does it have a pilot light ,spark igniton or hot surface igniter? jumper all your overheat sensors. my last thought is main gas coil is going bad.

Can you believe all of that craziness was simply caused my the thermostat wiring...redface
Red and white wires attached to the circuit board were bare copper, someone stripped 'em down too much ...and they Touched/untouched eachother ... Fml. I don't know how the hell I over looked something obvious like that. new circuit board thermostat all for nothing ...tiemunch

Is it one of the new efficient furnaces? Does it have drains on it for water runoff?
