Quoting: Anonymous Coward 754169 She had a complete meltdown. So I have called it off. I don't want to be legally attached to someone that is that bad with finances. It's too bad she reacted badly. Maybe she is not the person you thought she is. OR maybe she will think about it, look at the beautiful synthetic diamond rings and change her mind. I would feel terrible walking around with a diamond on my finger that lives were lost for. |

If you love her enough to marry her, don't start the marriage with a lie based on the rock you can provide her. Go to pawn shops, estate jewel places, etc. There are bargains. Do have anything you think seriously about buying checked by an expert and make sure you're not getting paste for Diamond prices. There are lots of almost undetectable fakes out there - and even experienced buyers have been "had" on occasion. Remember too, that if a deal sounds "too good to be true" it probably is. A friend of mine got a beautiful engagement/wedding ring set by advertising in a retirement community. He literally put up little 3x5 cards that said "young couple engaged. cannot afford much for a ring. would like to buy something decent and if it is used or old, so much the better. Private buyer for cash. I don't have thousands to spend. But perhaps a few hundred? Call me if you're interested: -- Name/Phone No." Some 85 year old woman who had been married four times called him. She was happy to think that her old ring set would be used again and loved again. She sold it to him for $300. It was appraised at over ten thousand for both the wedding band and engagement ring/guard bands as a set. Platinum mounting with yellow gold and about a total carat weight of a little over two carats (most of it in smaller stones set to surround the 1/2 carat center stone.) The nice lady was sent an invitation to their wedding and she attended, smiling all the way thru it! |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 28631873 United States 12/08/2012 05:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | What is the point in spending a fortune on a large diamond, then paying yearly to insure it, only to have it locked away in a home safe? Many people don't wear their fancy rings in public today for fear of being robbed. Do be honest with your bride to be, and explain your reasons for not wanting to spend a fortune. |

My sister did this and all of the women at her work said "your husband must really love you to buy such a beutiful ring". She had a great vacation at Clearlake and all of the women at work could not tell the difference at all. Quoting: farmerguy That's what I was thinking, but I was going to put the money I saved into a college fund for our future kids. You should talk to her about your thoughts on this and see if she agrees or not but don't be deceitful. My first fiance bought me a cz without telling me and he ended up being such a fake untrustworthy person. They break easy too, I smashed it with a hammer when I broke off the engagement. The man I ended up marrying, while he was prepared to get a diamond, we ended up researching about the diamond business and agreed that we didn't want our marriage to be tainted by that kind of thing. We just ended up getting nice gold bands. The whole diamond thing is such a big scam. You should sit down and research it together and discuss. Make sure your values are the same and you are honest or don't get married. You don't want to marry the wrong person. The right woman should have the same values and want similar things for your future, if there is any doubt don't do it. You don't seem to trust her, so don't do it. |

She showed a friend of hers and her friend asks how much was that. The wife answered 2. She said wow that looks a lot more expensive than $200! The ring was $2,000. So seriously just be upfront and remember most people don't know jewelry. You should get a nice 10kt gold ring. And buy the diamond and other junk later. Or get het silver. A ring, necklace, bracelet, earrings. And say see bitch I fucking love you. |

Especially plain gold with no facets or decorations ground into it. Anything other than the plainest looking ring will get worn and look like crap a few years down the road. A ring should look like the ring in the lord of the rings movies. Such a ring is timeless. |

I have a semi-related question for the ladies here... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23660254 Without delving fully into my personal life, I have a very expensive diamond ring(Platinum, antique in style), 'left over' from my last relationship. I really don't know what to do with it. It is a beautiful ring, and I am sure most women would appreciate it, but I feel it is now a bit tainted. It would be wrong to give it to another woman, if ever that type of situation arises again, wouldn't it? I think it would be, but never have been in that situation. How would a woman feel knowing she is the second recipient of a ring? Mind you, it is a very expensive, beautiful piece of jewelry... |

So look for something very clear and sparkly. Look at the stone good in a loop and make sure it's not cracked. 10K gold will probably have sucks stones in in them. 14k in the middle as for stones. 18K gold rings usually have the better stones, If you find 18k and platinum together and even better stones. And then you don't have to deal with your lie of omission? Better to be honest up front. And if you do go with CZ tell her. When I got married, my man didn't have the money to buy even a gold band. I loved him then and 20 years later still love him more than ever. Though, once he made some $, he bought me a beautiful eternity ring.
