Dear LuciusErstwhile, (always wanted to say that) Patchouli, while certainly thought of as an aphrodisiac in hippie circles, is not really the topic. Did you read what the poster said?

Regret.

The answer is always no if you don't ask.

Why accept no when the answer may be yes.

Regret by far. Rejection is ultimately liberating once you deal and cope with it while regret lasts forever and there is really nothing you can do to mitigate it except never do it to begin with.hf

Regret. The worst that can happen with rejection is you feel silly for a bit, but get full closure.

Regret will have you wondering for life, what would your life be now IF you had taken that chance and put it out there in a full way. Ie - do it full on or do not bother really, leave no doubt in your intentions and hopes ;o)

Good luck!

Re: Is rejection or regret worst?
Good question.

Depends on who the rejection is from, I think... If its someone you don't feel spiritually, soulfully bound too... Then regret would be worse.

But if rejection comes from someone who really matters to you, then I suppose rejection would be worse

Regret is just crying over spilt milk, and rejection is just a feeling of inferiority because your worried that someone might think less of you, but what really matters is what you think of yourself, and the reality is no one gives a shit anyway and worrying about what other people think should be; they should worry about what I think of them. Just remember, You are the center of the freakin' universe and everything in it was put there JUST FOR YOU!

I would have to choose regret but that's just because I didn't have the guts to make a move when I should of and now I'm forced to live with that regret...I really don't know how I would of taken a rejection, perhaps just as bad as living with this regret but I guess I'll never know !

hah! rejection hurts more... and stabs the heart where regret is sadness and remorse, not too bad.

Anyone who has been through the nasty end of a divorce by being the one rejected will tell you rejection is worse.

Rejection may be temporary. Regret is permanent.

And don't date out of your league. That's the worst mistake. Don't believe people saying you could have anybody. It's just not true.

I think regret is the worst. There is no sense in troubling yourself with what's already happened, there's no rewind button for your life. Rejection on the other hand can be a blessing in disguise, maybe it wasn't meant to be.

Re: Is rejection or regret worst?
Rejection involves the interpretation of an outside event. Regret is the rumination of perceived failed handling of an event or choice that is is now history. Both are common distress reactions. Neither is mandatory.

That said, I've seen rejection kill, and I've seen regret ruin quality of life.

Rejection reactions are more common and intense in relationships in the young. Regret seems to be more common in the daydreams of later years.

When rejection is simply the 'spin' one puts on failing to obtain a desired acceptance, or when regret fails to note that all events - within ones scope of power and outside it - are what makes one who one is, they are mistakes.

Mistakes because no one knows the future, and in order to be feeling one or the other, one is usually assuming a finality, and ignoring the possibility of an unexpected, or yet conceived, positive outcome.

Not to say that rejection by ones entire tribe, or regret at egregious harm done to others are trivial or not valid. But I can think of few sadder things the mind can do than to trap one in these things, wasting precious time. (yes, I've dabbled in both)

Without reading the other posts, I going to proclaim that rejection is far worse than regret.

With regret you learn and do better - with rejection you have no outlet to change anything.

Just my two cents.

Re: Is rejection or regret worst?
I sort of assume this is about romantic feelings for someone.

Regret is worse because you will constantly nag yourself about what could have been had you done something differently.

Actual rejection is not as bad as you think. The fear of rejection is what makes it seem bad. That just builds up anxiety. But once you have been actually rejected, you might not fear it as much in the future. This in turn allows you to man-up and tell people about your feelings for them.

I had a few regrets before my first rejection. Once I realized it wasn't all that bad...I sort of regretted my decision making with the last few girls. So in that sense it made me regret the past even more, but for the future I felt it was a healthy choice.

Most people are not jerks about it either. They won't make a FB post and call you out or tell their friends/your friends about you asking them out. Even if they did, that sort of stuff washes away within weeks. It ain't shit.

GUILT.

Rejection is agony but can be recovered from as long as you do not take the path of bitterness.

God help you if you become bitter and resentful.

God luck sweet young one, may you chose wisely and let your head rule your heart in this one.

Rejection is worse. It hurts to the core and there's nothing one can do to make it better...except, let time pass. Of course, it all depends on the time one has invested in another or how social one is, I suppose.
