Unsolicited advice: Those living near the rivers should utilize that resource, learn to catch fish and drink water from the river, learn to make fire so you can boil water or sterilize stuff, simple things that people who live in the 1st world countries should know. Learn to cook meat(chicken or pork or beef) with vinegar and soy sauce and of course salt and pepper like "adobo," the vinegar will prevent the meat from going bad even if you do not refrigerate it. Lastly, I do not believe anything "catastrophic" will happen anytime soon, that is just the media wanting to sell their merchandise. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 26836006 United States 12/03/2012 01:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I feel sorry for anyone just now deciding to prepare. The list of stuff is so great. I have been planning for years...like a hobby. My group would put up the ready cut window covers and sit tight. I would suggest getting "The Foxfire" books. They tell it like it used to be and how to get along in a primitive age. From making soap to moonshine, burying the dead and birthing the babies. Books will be your best friends. Get a good supply of how to books from plumbing to poisoned plants. Have oil lamps with extra wicks. Buy the no-odor oil because that scented stuff will make you sick over time. The oil lamp far outlasts candles or batteries. Cheap too. Get a few games to have on hand. Nothing like a good game of battleship when you’re waiting to die. Get a good supply of hard candy to suck on. Chewing gum too. You can store it in used soda bottles. It stays dry even in a flood. It lasts a long time. You can bury those bottles and even a mouse will not chew into them. They were made for food and they take pressure so they are a free container to store anything in. Water too! So drink your pop then fill the bottle and bury it so it will not be stolen. Same with most juice jugs as long as they have a plastic screw-on cap. They also hold, sugar, creamer, tea, instant coffee, soup mixes, pasta, oats, beans, corn, rice, soap, dried fruit, grains, and most anything you can get through the opening. Money too if you want to...just bury it all where you can find it when you need it. The only true enemy is the sun...they deteriorate in the hot sun. Sorry...went of topic again. |

If the lights go out World Wide only the developed countries will be bad. The rest of the World lives without alot of power already. What makes us great also makes us volnerable. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20452647 If your not already living close to without power your fucked. Gravity water ( No Pump ) Wood Heat. Wood Cookstove Access to firewood. Hand Tools for everything. Some Solar Power. Windmill Seeds to grow food and start over. Knowledge about everything. Way to protect ones self. Some small livestock. Knowledge for Livestock. Hunting and trapping skills. For most without having been exposed to living on a farm setting or some survival skills that have been tried and tested your done. Most people have never even been camping. Your done. Better have an exit plan. A good one. Sorry. well since you put it that way... |

Quoting: Bentleysports There's a lot of shows on TV about it, but it doesn't seem like anyone living around me is even paying attention. Is anyone going through this? Or do you even care and think nothing will happen? Eventually SOMETHING will happen, it may not be in our lifetimes though. |
