A complex creation must have a creator (Rom. 1:20).

That's why you never see a tornado rip through a junkyard and accidentally
assemble a fully fueled and functioning 747 jet airplane.

Since their must be a creator, it is most important that man find out who God is
(John 1:1) and what God wants (Eccl. 12:13).

God says man will know the Bible is the Word of the one, true living God
because it is the only Word that always tells the absolute truth about
everything (Isa. 42:9, 46:10, Deut. 4:35).

It does.

"The reason people scoff at the Bible is because of their lifestyle. They don't
want there to be a God, because God interferes with their lifestyle, and so
they scoff at the Bible because of their lusts." - Kent Hovind

Are you people that fucking stupid?
Seriously, we don't all 'believe' in evolution. Most of us are open to a multitude of possibilities with regards the origins of humankind.

And even if some of us do 'believe' in evolution and that we evolved from some primordial sludge, we don't get on our knees and attempt having a personal relationship with it!

Re: Is religion a mental illness? Or does it exploit mental illness?
Religion gives people the tools for which to live, it also gave people a chance to get together once a week, and reaffirm those Christian values, and those neighborly ties. This was very important in our formalative years in coming together as a society, and a soft landing in the introduction of laws which formalized these values.

Are great thinkers religious? No, great thinkers must be free of such concepts as religion. Although their bodies must abide by the laws of man, and their social responsibilities, their minds must be free to wander, and to question, and to weigh, and to see from all perspectives.

We, on the lunatic fringe are the great thinkers of this age, and we are ridiculed the same way as the thinkers of old were. We come together, exchange knowledge, explore alternative ideologies, always questioning, always sharing, always changing. Just like the great thinkers, Pluto, Aristotle, Jesus.

So, is religion a mental illness? Is my post the rambling of an insane woman? Or a wise fool? You'll never know.

Jesus Christ, the living Word (John 1:1, 14) is not a religion, He is the truth (John 14:6).

Everything else is a 'religion.'

When you say you believe god, you are talking about yourself as a living god.

God, the Word (John 1:1), is available to all to read and understand, whereas
your god is your own personal lusts.

I think most people who believe in a higher power of some sort - an infinitely consistent variable that's part of every equation in existence - do so out of comfort. It benefits their personal lives and I think it's safe to say that most people have no problem with that.

However, so many people become stubborn in a belief out of fear. They think that if they even consider the possibility of being wrong, they will be punished both in this life and the following one(s) because they've been wired to think that way. If that isn't the definition of superstition, I don't know what is.

Depends on what you consider "religion" to be.

The bible defines religion thus:

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

Do you consider people who do such things to be mentally ill? I'm pretty sure that Satan thinks so, but how about you?

Re: Is religion a mental illness? Or does it exploit mental illness?
I think it causes mental illness. Out of my family I'm the only one who escaped.

Good on you! I and a couple of family members escaped from years of it too but I have lost about 5-10 friends over the past 10 years to the illness. It sucks...they are gone, you can't help them, you can't change shit. They are just gone and it is sad.
