Re: Is religion a mental illness? Or does it exploit mental illness?
Depends on what you consider "religion" to be.

The bible defines religion thus:

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28765560

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. (Matt. 4:4)

Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish
ought from it
, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which
I command you. (Deut. 4:2)

Do you consider people who do such things to be mentally ill? I'm pretty sure that Satan thinks so, but how about you?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28765560

It doesn't matter what I think, only what God says:

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags
(Isa. 64:6)

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I
am he, ye shall die in your sins. (John 8:24)

Hey... All I did was quote the bible, pal.

Some people find the need to be credited for being good. Crazy? maybe, immature? possibly... insecure? definitely.

God save the insecure for they shall follow.

in Satan's world, a person who no longer lives for the world, is going to appear to be mentally ill, by the unconverted wicked.

"But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him. Neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." 1st Corinthians 2:14

"And he said, Go your way, Daniel. For the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried, but the wicked shall do wickedly. And none of the wicked shall understand, but the wise shall understand" Daniel 12:9-10

"Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, and with all delusion of unrighteousness in them that perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie. That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." 2nd Thessalonians 2:9-12

...

everyone is a radical fundamentalist believer in their religion

as of now, you are a radical fundamental believer in yourself as a living god
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7254491

You gave me a good laugh with that one. I am just a tiny soul in the grand scheme of things. How can one choose the "correct" religion? Perhaps each one has a piece, and the puzzle can only be completed when they all come together and agree on the larger picture? It would seem more could be achieved by working together than by arguing or warring over who is correct.
 Quoting: Southern OR

a complex creation must have a creator...have you ever seen a tornado
accidentally assemble a jet plane?

so there must be a God, one God, one truth

God makes the rules, not his creation

God says man will know the Bible is His Word because it is the only Word
that always tells the truth about everything

And it does. It is the Word of God
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7254491

Which bible? Old testament, New testament, Mormon, Jehovah Witness, Muslim (yes, they pick and choose to add to the Qur'an), Jewish, Catholic?
 Quoting: Southern OR

The English translation of God's Word is in the King James Bible, virtually
identical to the Dead Sea Scrolls. According to God, man is to live by every
word (Matt. 4:4), Old Testament and New Testament.

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (Gen. 1:1)

In the beginning was the Word (John 1:1)

According to God, man is saved purely by grace alone through faith in and
confession of the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:9-10, Eph. 2:8-9).

You isolated one verse that does not contain these all important aspects of
salvation and, in fact, on its own could mislead people into believing the
heretical teaching that salvation is by works.

I love the way religitards always assume that anyone who is not religious is an evolutionist.
Are you people that fucking stupid?
Seriously, we don't all 'believe' in evolution. Most of us are open to a multitude of possibilities with regards the origins of humankind.

And even if some of us do 'believe' in evolution and that we evolved from some primordial sludge, we don't get on our knees and attempt having a personal relationship with it!

You muppet!

Either God created everything, or everything created itself.

Being "open to a multitude of possibilities" doesn't change

But you well know this, you wicked deceiver.

Perhaps you should stop making assumptions and stick to having a conversation about the topic at hand. You seem confident enough about your beliefs and more than willing to discuss them, but it reflects poorly on your judgment when you just start making stuff up about me, Joseph.

The wicked are open to any possibility except the truth (John 14:6)

I DO confess Jesus (Yeshua) as the Savior. And how are my fruits bad, if I merely answered the OP with a bible verse that is JUST AS VALID as the ones that you have posted??

To keep oneself unspotted from the world, is a good way to describe true religion, if limited to just one verse. I didn't go into rabid attack mode, like you people who give the truth a bad name.

Condemning and rebuking other believers, based on the fact that they don't read your mind perfectly, and post a whole slew of verses, in order to satisfy you.

You are the EXACT kind that keeps non-believers from even WANTING to believe. Still a baby "Christian" who beats people over the head, like clanging cymbals.

-- quoting your quote seems like a rather appropriate way for me to respond.

You are a self proclaimed psychotropic adventurer and rogan whore (Lev. 20:6).

But in all fairness, I don't know how many fleshlights you've purchased from
rogan, nor how often you use them.

Interesting that you included John 14:6 in your quoting of my quote.

Everyone instinctively knows Jesus is Lord because He is.

But a loving God gives all freedom of choice to reject the truth.

Re: Is religion a mental illness? Or does it exploit mental illness?
Just for the record, I was a believer in Christianity for many years.

Then I grew up and came to my senses.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9788321

You were described by Christ in the sower of the seeds parable.

Here is the seed that represents you:

"Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away."

And here is Christ's interpretation of the seed that describes you:

"But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it.

Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while. For when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended."

More importantly than that... I actually read the Bible through and realized what kind of deity I was worshiping.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9788321

Then I came to realize that billions of other people honestly believe their religion is the right one.

I came to the conclusion that there is no way for a mortal man to know for certain what the nature of God is.

Then Satan has done his job well, in your case. He has sown a million and one deceptions and traps, intended to confuse and confound. He is the very author of confusion.

Re: Is religion a mental illness? Or does it exploit mental illness?
...

According to God, man is saved purely by grace alone through faith in and
confession of the Lord Jesus Christ (Rom. 10:9-10, Eph. 2:8-9).

You isolated one verse that does not contain these all important aspects of
salvation and, in fact, on its own could mislead people into believing the
heretical teaching that salvation is by works
.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7254491

So... You wanted me to quote the entire bible?

The OP asked if "religion" is a mental illness, and I picked a verse that defines what religion is, according to the bible ITSELF.

Even though I don't agree with the OP in general, I do believe that you have some mental issues.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28765560

^^^
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is
not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist (1 John 4:3)

Ye shall know them by their fruits (Matt. 7:16).
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7254491

It's really hilarious watching you continue to post bible verses at me, as if I disagree with ANY of them... lol

Your initial post was right below mine, but apparently you were replying to
the OP. You could have clarified that in your prior post (condemning and
rebuking other believers, based on the fact that they don't read your mind
perfectly?)

Joe! I didn't realize it was you again. hi

Anyway, our mortal minds are limited to understanding everything in measurements. To believe that eternity does exist (which, it does), you would have to conclude that existence would be as infinite as the nothingness that preceded it. With that being said, I'm completely open to that 3rd possibility.

For moser, taking psychotropic drugs, humping a fleshlight, and listening to
the lies and filth of church of satan lackey joe rogan is more fun than being
accountable to his Creator.

I was hoping I could come back to something worth discussing but you're still stuck trying to discredit me instead of the points I make. It's just disappointing, friend. verysad

I'm glad you find your own reference interesting. Perhaps you should consider what it means.

Actually, the true man of God (if He is truly not ashamed), IS to preach the word to believers and non-believers alike. In season and out of season. How do you expect non-believers to ever believe? God uses PEOPLE to preach the word, and the Holy Spirit works through people.

Ya know... People like you are the very type that are so DRIVEN to be "right", that they will argue with people who are in perfect agreement with the scriptures, just so that they can appear to be MORE right, than a fellow believer.

I realize that you cannot see it for yourself, but it is really nauseating, to people who can.

I bet you could find a way to argue with someone for a straight hour, who believes in Christ with all their heart.
