My first thoughts as well! The border between Russia and Norway is tiny...seems like the only thing up there is the seed vault.

I understand it is an island...but, being on the edge of Norway makes the Russians that much closer to the island.

Svar you May not know is that the Islands of Svalbard Are shared by Russian and Norway. You can't get much closer than "already there!!" You can't just "go" there either.
