I received a call at 5am this morning from one of my government contacts over in Norway who told me that they have secured a deal with Russia by trading 1,000,000,000 Hostess Twinkies for 1,000,000,000 gallons of oil. The Russians are sending in troops to caravan the Twinkies back to Moscow. I will let you know if I find anything else out.

To my knowledge Norway isn't in the Euro-Zone but it is part of NATO (correct me if I'm wrong)..

I was interested in the article's description of this deployment being "significant for its size and where it is".

They seem to be getting ready for something to happen in Europe.

Connect the dots. Poland, Czech, Italy etc recently called up a significant number of reserve troops, and just prior to that Switzerland said that they'd need to mobilize the army soon. Now this.

This just highlights the importance of the Arctic in the future. Resources, shipping lanes etc. There's been lots of talk about it in the past few years. Russia is simply reevaluating their priorities, the Arctic is contested and the boundaries are not clear. Russia is committed to working out the best deal possible for them and to guard their position. I don't see what the big deal is. All major countries do this.

Russian mechanized infantry brigades are heavy in
a) artilery elements
b) combat elements (with 5 combat battalions)

They are very low in reccon elements. This kind of brigades are ideal for peacekeeping or defensive operations, having little to no value in offensive operations (low to no recon elements, and limited mobility artilery, with long setup times).

A-Ha announced their comeback. the russians want to make sure that wont happen.
