Re: Typhoon Bopha (Pablo) Catagory 5 Super Typhoon Heading for the Philippines
Greetings All.

I am Boro and I live in NE Mindanao, Philippines. I am an American Expat moved here 6 years ago.

According to all the Satellite data. Our house here is going to get a direct hit. It looks like the eye will come right over us.

I am about 60km inland with a 1000ft mountain between us and the coast. While this will offer some relief from direct winds, it will likely compound flooding.

I will stay online for as long as I can, I am a IT guy so I have backup power and several internet connections. Although I expect all three internet providers to drop out once the wind gets a movin.

Right now the sky's are very dark with foreboding clouds. It is quite warm and humid, and the air is dead still. No wind at all.

The gov has put our area on alert status 3 (the Highest) and when I drove through town I noticed our three firetrucks and 2 police cars were roaming the area (very small town here)

I don't expect our grid to last once it hits, I expect many homes (actually they are huts) will likely get lost.

Right now the news is saying the fun should begin later tonight (3 to 4 hour from now).

Will keep you updated once the action begins if I am able.

It is 6pm our time as of this post.

Yes: They are evacuating folks that live within 6km of the coast from Northern Davao all the way through the Visayas Islands.
They are being moved or being forced to inland schools, Gyms and churches.

When were at the market earlier and also at the dry/canned goods retailers, we noticed several gov types buying out all the coffee and other things for emergency ration packs they will give to the evacuees. Which is nice of them to do. But it pissed me off cause the rest of us could not buy supplies as they were all taken by the gov folks. I don't understand why they can't just have their own supply warehouse, rather then buy up the public food supply.

Grrr..

Oh well, we will be good.

Rain just started. About 1 inch per hour, moderate.

Looks like the outer band is just starting to hit.
No real wind yet.

When Typhoon Sendong hits the country, the culprit is RH Bill. Now RH Bill is set to be debated and finalized tomorrow, its Tuesday in the PH, Typhoon Bopha moves faster to reach the country before the session starts. And many of these lawmakers who supports RH Bill came from Southern PH and from Central Visayas too. Earthquakes are not enough to awaken these slumbered politician. Update:

8:40pm Philippine Time as of this post.

We started to get a little wind maybe 10 to 15mph and it has been raining moderate for the past 45 min or so, then,
just a few minutes ago everything stopped.

No rain and no wind just a deathly quiet.

We still have a few hours before the nasty part starts to hit.
