I mean, we have a heart beat/pulse due to the nature of the 'pump'. We grow up with it, and it becomes part of our subconcious, rarely do we even bother about it, unless something is wrong.
But when people have heart transplants etc, they are put on a machine. Some use a method that creates a synthetic beat. Some a straight pumps.
We could create very efficient artificial hearts/pumps much smaller than our own hearts, with far better control of the flow etc.
But, do we need it to have a beat? What would happen to a person with no heart beat? Is it so engrained on us that we might go loopy without one?
So how important is it? |
