We wouldn't have traffic lights. [ link to en.wikipedia.org] Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr. (March 4, 1877 – August 27, 1963) was an African-American inventor. His most notable creations were a type of respiratory protective hood, a traffic signal, and a hair-straightening preparation. He is renowned for a heroic rescue in 1917 at Lake Erie in which he used his hood to save workers trapped in a tunnel system filled with fumes, after other rescue attempts had failed. He is credited as the first African American in Cleveland, Ohio, to own an automobile.[1] Quoting: stillhere Nonsense. In early 1922, black-American inventor Garrett Augustus Morgan designed a cross-shaped traffic signal, for which he submitted a patent application on February 27 of that year. The patent — which was not even among the first 50 traffic signal patents issued in the United States — was granted on November 20, 1923.
The idea that modern traffic control systems evolved from Garrett Morgan's traffic light is rubbish. The traffic light had already evolved into its familiar red-yellow-green form before Garrett Morgan came along with his "new invention".(Snippet) [ link to southendpatriot.blogspot.de] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28945462 Nonsense, everyone knows a black had to invent the patent office. lol
