I use colloidal silver for those nasty coughs...and I have told multitudes to do the same... BUT...w/the silver...you need to put it in a spray bottle of some sort and INHALE the spray...YOU WANT IT IN YOUR LUNGS!!!! It works quick...2 days you should be done w/cough! Some have tried a vaporizer...??? but unless you get directly over it, it MIGHT NOT work???? I and others spray (small spray bottle) directly in to lungs while we inhale deeply! You won't regret it!  I use a nebulizer [ link to www.outpatientmd.com] Bingo. That's the way to go.
