Torn ACL

Currently recovering... Torn Meniscus, ACL and a full strip of the cartilage on the right condyle.

Sucks.

Rehab in most cases is pretty quick. Don't over do it though... Tearing the the scar tissue hurts like BIOTCH (Even worse than the initial injury)

Cadaver ligaments here. I can second the scar tissue, tis a bitch. Had a substitute therapist one day who made it his mission to break mine up. Dude almost got punched.

Agreed with all of the above. Not the worst thing to recover from, however I feel its never 100% again :(

Knock on wood, the knee I had wrenched on is now the stronger of the two. It's been 3.5yrs since I had the surgery and I can finally say I have no I'll effects from it. Could be because I opted for cadaver versus graft, who knows.

OP, you getting grafted?

I did. Had no insurance or job....iced it for 2 weeks,kept it wrapped longer,wore a brace for 5 months. Healed.
BTW...it was the most blinding,excruciating pain I could ever have imagined.

yes, you will be back at 99-100%if you do the physical therapy. it will be a long and painful process but you can do it good luck :)

I had the official orthopedic surgeon for the retired NFL Players Association scope my knee. Go with the best.....

Is it a partial or a full tear? i had a partial tear of my ACL in 7th grade from a collision with another player while playing soccer. My doctor said to wait for surgery, because he believed it could heal on its own. My knee was swollen like a balloon and I couldn't bend it more than a tiny bit. He also said not to wear crutches. I limped around with my knee like this for 9 months with literally no improvement, then one day I woke up and it was healed, swelling was gone. So glad I didn't get surgery. Healed so perfectly that I literally don't remember which knee it was.

Then 4 years ago when I was 21 I tore my meniscus snowboarding. It was also a partial tear. The orthopedic surgeon said the meniscus doesn't really get blood flow so is difficult to heal a tear, and I should think about surgery. The next day I got acupuncture and walked out of there with 80% more range of motiion and without crutches. 2 weeks later I was completely healed.

If you have a partial tear I would find a GOOD acupuncturist(there's a lot of bad ones,) and you might be able to avoid surgery. If you have a full tear, you probably need surgery, but I would still get acupuncture to help recovery. Don't let your doctor convince you that acupuncture won't work. He obviously doesn't believe in acupuncture, or he would have been an acupuncturist. Good luck

I've had a bad knee for a month.. twisted it while carrying something heavy. Now it pops often and hurts like a bitch.. I have a big black ACE bandage on it which helps keep in immobilized some. Not got any better though. Haven't been able to get into the doctor due to holidays, etc.

I'm afraid I have meniscous issue or something.. ugh
