When did the date 21/12/2012 first become known?

Try 1959 Popular Science Magazine .

This date was unknown before the year 2000. No way if tptb knew the end date would they publicize it half a decade on the history channel

Info wasnt easy to get back in the day before the internet, unless you were a bookworm in a library. And of course the media isnt going to tell anyone shit, then or now. However its up to the individual what they choose to believe.Fact is hard to come by. Speculation is everywhere.

I first heard the story from the Director of the Archelogical digs, at TIKAL, Guatemala, in 1994.

It's been around a long time, but people were focused on Doom that was supposed to be sooner, like the ever-scary "Year 2000!!!" or Nancy's 2003, or Nostradamus's 1986 (I think) etc.

NObody ever really thought we'd live to see 2012, at least in the sense that things are pretty much the way they've always been.

Well I mean if you count the myans the chinese , egyptians. then 2000+ years ago . But only became a concern in modern times around 2008 I'd say . But more callendars come to an end on that date than just the myans.

there was a show called 'prophecy series' or something like that in the late 80s talking about dec 21, 2012. scared the crap out of me! they told of appliances attacking people and household pets attacking us too lol

I'm aware of this since the mid nineties, mostly because my father knew this way before. It dawned on my really around 2004. I haver read elsewhere that a NASA engineer was one of the first to write a book about this (a guy with a French sounding surname, can't remember now).

Yesterday I spotted a thread in GLP wrote by Apocalypse Girl that she recalled being told about 2012 (not the exact date) 40 years ago by a NASA Executive that went to her home to give the bad news to her father that he was fired (Apocalypse Girls says that his father was a rocket engineer at Rocketdyne)

Ha, I saw that show once in an early sunday in national TV. It was ridiculous to see the appliances attacking people (it was a crude interpretation of one of the Mayan Prophecies) I alwasy had the impression that the program had been ordered by some fanatic Christians to discredit the whole 2012 hoopla. I saw that program around 2001.

there were several times this date popped up but nothing was really hyped about everything until after y2k, the first test...it worked real well showed how easily the populaces could be duped and installed a false sense of security in the full scale electronic banking structure for the average joe

I recall the world was going to end on the 3/3/1983 ,due to an incoming object. then Y2K, then dec 21.

I heard that date in the early- mid nineties. Its been around longer than that even

and I remember seeing in 'world news' grocery store tabloid that a meteor was to hit earth in april of 1994 and kill us all.. never happened!

I first heard about it in 2003 on another forum.

I really enjoy reading others' stories about having heard of it 20, 40+ years back.

9-10 years ago hardly anyone knew about this date, yet clearly it's been "known" for far longer, which to me lends credence to the possibility of something big happening on that day. Well, at the very least it makes it more interesting.

And now, whatever may or may not happen, it's just 19 days away :)

I also think that most people waiting for something huge will be utterly dissapointed. The date is important in the sense that it's the beginning of a period in which changes will acelerate. We will probably have a WW3. And by 2015 or up to 2019 the so called Hercolobus will make it's appearance.

But by far the most important changes will be a the subtle level, within each person.

But as I say, nothing huge that day or anyone around, just an increase of what we are already looking at (EQs, floods, etc.)
