Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1306234 The Grey -- with Liam Nielson -- the best film of 2011-2012. Stunning movie. It will leave you speechless and pondering. We really really liked it. So much so, that the next morning when we woke up, we ended up staying in bed for an extra 45 minutes talking about it before we got up. |

I'm convalescing with a broken leg and out of boredom etc have been watching more TV than I'd like to - sooooh much shit that passes for programming. As a result of all this 'watching' I've noticed that the majority of films on offer, especially ones made post 911 have mayhem and shoot 'em up killing at the core. So much so, that it has to be contrived and deliberate. Years ago I used to think that it was just a trend, fashionable genere and that we'd move on and start producing thought provoking and challenging films again. Not so. Most film genres are formulaic, follow a defined pattern and leave you with a sense of deja vu - same plot, diffferent characters. I have also been exposed to a lot of Chinese and Koreran films on gthe local TV stations and can clearly see plots like the Good the Bad and the Ugly - one example of man - being rewritten for local consumption. My wife is stunned sometimes as often I can't follow the dialogue how I can follow the plot. She thinks I'm a genius. No, it's simple. Because I can read the formula, I can predict the evolution of the plot and characters and outcomes. However, just last night, I heard a comment by an announcer delighted to tell us that they were proud to offer films that were 're-writng history'. There, you have it. Now to the clincher. The walking deadhas 8 awards from last year and wall to wall promotion on just about every other channel over here. It is nothing but an hours worth of gore and 'cool' slaughtering with very little in between to tie up the action in a coherent meaningful plot. The reason for this. Dumbing down hedonistic self gratifying trash to keep the 'zombies' viewing. That's why there are few big movies. |

Prequel to Lord of the Rings Trilogy. First movie of LOR--"Fellowship of the Ring"--was an absolutely great movie. In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values." MuzzleBreak |

Its a history of Shakespeare... except that it tells the alternate tale of who shakespeare might really havebeen (since there are theories out there a plenty that Shakespeare himself was either a pseudonym or a lackey to put forth works that were too political, etc at the time... for instance, some think Kit Marlowe was shakespeare... some think that shakespeare was more than one person, and others posit that shakespeare was a real man -- but that he didn't write the works attributed to him). Soon Eddie takes Wall Street by storm, parlaying a small stake into millions. His accomplishments catch the eye of mega-mogul Carl Van Loon (De Niro),who invites him to help broker the largest merger in corporate history. But they also bring Eddie to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT. With his life in jeopardy and the drug's brutal side effects grinding him down, Eddie dodges mysterious stalkers, a vicious gangster and an intense police investigation as he attempts to hang on to his dwindling supply long enough to outwit his enemies" chobee |
