It looked good for Obama. There are a lot of uninformed people that view NASA as frivolous spending better left for times of greater prosperity. SpaceX has been very involved in our space affairs since that, though. I don't know how much of their work is privately contracted by the federal government, but I'm sure that this plays a role in it.

I'll leave the rest to people that know more than I do about this issue to take it a bit further.

NASA's most promising breakthroughs in space travel have simply been shuffled into the military. NASA is the watered-down, outdated, public face of the real technology at work.

In the 50s, The next big step in space flight was the nuclear drive engine. Essentially powering a ship through controlled nuclear detonations. Using such force within the earth's atmosphere was expressly against several international conventions, and so in the 50s-60s and beyond the US continued development in secret, as military projects. Several notable cases of irradiated citizens came up as well. But the work continued in Los Alamos, and other places.

So you see... because the next big step in flight propulsion is also very significant to the military (cough Aurora cough) the truly cutting edge stuff is utterly restricted from public knowledge.

It seems europe, Russia and the private sector are going to take over. Aim to have a manned mission to mars by 2020.

Because the West reached the height of civilization in the 1960s. Then mass immigration and the growth of the welfare state took over - money paid out started to rise, and money coming in decreased. Education declined, and it's got worse with each decade since then. A bit like the Roman Empire, and probably many more civilizations before that.

You simply can not survive with out Earth and the energy fields which encompass you.

The moment you leave Earths bio field you loose all learned memory and die from rapid system collapse.

Probably because the US doesn't like to share its toys. When the 60s came around, they were so much more advanced than anyone else that they didn't see the need to divulge anything to anyone, including the American tax payers. Secret programs and plausible deniability allowed them to move forward in the background to the point where they are decades ahead technologically of the public. Revealing those programs and advances would piss everybody off, for what could've been accomplished and/or prevented. We can thank the cold war for that.

You know the saying, catch 22, a no-win situation, damn if you do damn if you dont. They're stuck perpetuating the secrecy, they cant tell the truth without the entire world population backlash.

So until that inevitable day where they have no choice to show us what they got to save our sorry ass, it will be business as usual, which is most of the money into the military space program that can be kept secret, and crumbs to the official space program to maintain appearances.

Didn't even factored in alien tech in all this which im sure is in part responsible for all the secrecy.

They are probably going to role out their ufo technology soon, so it was a waist of money to keep making believe the state of the art was flying buckets that had trouble landing on planets.

I think it was all mostly a lie, so they killed the missle part of it and developed the shuttle so they could dominate earth. maybe the aliens on the moon told them to stay off.
