Homeless man shoeless again. Wants a piece of pie.
The homeless man a New York officer bought shoes for, is now shoeless again. He took the shoes off because they're too valuable, and he want's a piece of pie as payment because his "photo has been used in newspapers".

My prediction is that there will be a fund set up where people can donate to him. He will receive well over 250,000 dollars. People will come out of the woodwork with offers of housing, jobs etc. He will take the money, and possibly the housing, but will decline any job offers.

Meanwhile unemployed parents everywhere will continue to struggle trying to keep a roof over their own heads while searching for jobs.

Maybe he should sell his expensive shoes and go buy a fuckin cherry pie and choke on it. I truly believe some folks are on the street cause they choose to be, much like this ingrate.

I think there are homeless people that struggle back from it. But people living on the street seem to not want to work their way back to having a home, and job. They do decline offers of help that mean they would have to continue the struggle by actually helping themselves.

Of course many are on some form of disability. SSI or VA benefits. Some probably do have mental health issues that would stop them from having a career, or even being dependable about paying simple bills like rent. It is sad for those people. But there are some that really do choose that lifestyle despite attempts from family or friends to assist them.

hf I agree. It seemed set up or something. Like the cop wanted the publicity. Didn't the homeless guy say he had never had a pair of shoes? Was he born on the street and raised by the homeless? I didn't get the aww moment either.

The word "exploited" is thrown around way too often. Workers are exploited by their employers with whom they willingly accepted a job offer. Now this homeless guy is being exploited because he was bought an expensive pair of shoes. If people buying other people expensive things with no expectation of anything in return is now considered exploited, then people can exploit me as much as they like.

I do not use the term exploited as in the sense of buying him shoes. That is simplistic and doesn't make sense.

Read my context.

The cop did something for personal gain and used the homeless guy to get it.
He exploited him.

Won't be surprised when what you said happens. There was that incident of an old bus monitor who was ridiculed by kids not too long ago and the public donated her over $500k. This ungrateful homeless guy will probably get tons of money and appear on daytime talk shows.

Re: Homeless man shoeless again. Wants a piece of pie.
Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ was visiting Times Square with her husband Nov. 14 when they saw a shoeless man asking for change. She writes, “Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man. The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching*. I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name. It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.”
Our thanks to the Fosters for their attention and appreciation, and especially to this officer, who remains anonymous.

It just sickens me to think that the homeless man sold the boots! It is such a gimme-gimme society these days. Many people don't have to work for what they get anymore and it shows in how little respect they have for these things.

Life is packed with learning trials, for all of us. How you respond to this trial, will separate the wheat from the chaff.

The man obviously has mental and dietary issues and I am sure, more problems than you can shake a stick at. He is also facing great trials daily, without being in a stable environment. How you equate to this story could discern if your spirit has learned UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND COMPASSION for our fellow HUMAN BEINGS.

Our Creator Source has two commandments:

LOVE ONE ANOTHER.

LOVE OTHERS AS YOU WOULD WANT TO BE LOVED.

Ya, if the guy was doing it for personal gain... It was never about the homeless man to begin with.....he just wanted some national attention that's all....

If the cop didnt have his own pic taken, and didnt post it on FB for the world to see, and someone else took it, without his knowing.....and posted on their FB, then I would have believed the cop to be genuine, and my opinion would be different.
