If he sold them boots he is an ungrateful person and nobody should give him anything. Do not give this homeless man anything at all. Nothing. Zero. Urge you to not give him anything.

The word "exploited" is thrown around way too often. Workers are exploited by their employers with whom they willingly accepted a job offer. Now this homeless guy is being exploited because he was bought an expensive pair of shoes. If people buying other people expensive things with no expectation of anything in return is now considered exploited, then people can exploit me as much as they like.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1447583

I do not use the term exploited as in the sense of buying him shoes. That is simplistic and doesn't make sense.

Read my context.

The cop did something for personal gain and used the homeless guy to get it.
He exploited him.
 Quoting: J-Honey

Oh no the guy that bought me something let others know of his good deed...I feel so used!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1447583

Ya, if the guy was doing it for personal gain... It was never about the homeless man to begin with.....he just wanted some national attention that's all....

If the cop didnt have his own pic taken, and didnt post it on FB for the world to see, and someone else took it, without his knowing.....and posted on their FB, then I would have believed the cop to be genuine, and my opinion would be different.
 Quoting: J-Honey

Um, the cop didn't know the pic was being taken. It took a few days to identify him and then the story started rolling.

The virtue of courage is a prerequisite for the practice of all other virtues, because otherwise one is virtuous only when virtue has no cost. There are times when something needs to be done, and yet we know that if we step up and do this needful thing, we will pay a heavy personal price. -C.S. Lewis

lol, NyPost originally said the man wanted a piece of pie... they went in and changed it to he wants a "peice OF THE pie". I went along with it,a homeless man asking for a piece of pie seemed reasonable to me. lol shrug

Re: Homeless man shoeless again. Wants a piece of pie.

Jennifer Foster of Florence, AZ was visiting Times Square with her husband Nov. 14 when they saw a shoeless man asking for change. She writes, “Right when I was about to approach, one of your officers came up behind him. The officer said, ‘I have these size 12 boots for you, they are all-weather. Let’s put them on and take care of you.’ The officer squatted down on the ground and proceeded to put socks and the new boots on this man. The officer expected NOTHING in return and did not know I was watching*. I have been in law enforcement for 17 years. I was never so impressed in my life. I did not get the officer’s name. It is important, I think, for all of us to remember the real reason we are in this line of work. The reminder this officer gave to our profession in his presentation of human kindness has not been lost on myself or any of the Arizona law enforcement officials with whom this story has been shared.”
Our thanks to the Fosters for their attention and appreciation, and especially to this officer, who remains anonymous.

Whatever he did with the boots is his business. The cop GAVE them to him, after that the choice is his.. It's called freedom baby, and whatever the guy did with them is his business..

Anyone who has an opinion about what he should or shouldn't have done with the boot only reveals themselves.

For all we know, he could have sold them for drugs or given them to some other needy person, boiled them in a pot, threw them in the trash, etc..

Whether you like or dislike whatever he did with the boots it is a fundamental principal in the U.S. that it is our right to choose for ourselves.

It's not a gift if we dictate what must be done upon receiving.

Re: Homeless man shoeless again. Wants a piece of pie.
I have a buddy that offered a homeless guy...that was holding "will work for food" sign...$10 an hr to pick up nails at his construction site. Told him he would give him a ride to and from..and that it would be about 6 or 7 hrs of work if he wanted it. The homeless guy said "nah...I can make more than that sitting here". That was 14 years ago. I haven't give a dime to a panhandler since.

That is your right as well, exercise it as often as you like. As did the man asking for a "piece of the pie".
