Why do I see every gas well on top of a hill?

Since costs are always an issue...isn't that more cost than putting the well in a valley..They have to use more pipe and drill through more earth...

Pull up to any gas/oil well anywhere and you have instant internet connection; need elevation for that.

That would depend on the geology and the structure of the hills in that particular area.

But most likely it is that you notice the hilltop wells due to skylining. Those in valleys and hollows are not as easily seen.

If the gas is coming out of salt dome formations, they could be on a hill caused by that uplift.

But, really, a well can be anywhere the state regulatory agency allows. Usually where it's cheapest to drill & produce from.
