The German army, with or without the element of surprise, was by far the most advanced and deadly military during all of WW2. Their kill to death ratio was astounding, and their ability to hold off on both fronts for aslong as they did when they had 1 superpower (the US), 1 rising superpower (Russia), and 1 great power bearing down on them from not one, not two, but THREE fronts (Everyone seems to forget the african-italian campaign :/)
