I have studied technology development/history from a broad perspective too, and I was writing fiction on this same theme before Revolution came out.

The issue is that we aren't building on top of our old infrastructure, we're replacing it with new, far more delicate systems that are ever more efficient, but also easier to disrupt. Think of that thumb drive that can now fit all the books in your library on it in text form. Pretty cool in one way, but on the other hand its hard to accidentally drop that library in your toilet.

We're building a society that can fit in the palm of somebody's hand, that can be massively disrupted through small events.

The people trying to warn us of this are our friends.

What's coming will make life w/o electricity like a walk in the park in comparison.

What I don't buy is this........

It can take 12-18 months to replace the transformer. We anticipate catastrophic failure at some pint in time. Since a Carrington type event is inevitable.

Why not replace the fucking things BEFORE they blow. Shit, we knew this years ahead of time. We should have replacements for the replacements by now.
