Google is building Skynet (This is the REAL Dec. 21, 2012 Singularity event) | |
Carshy McCarsh (OP) User ID: 1531528 12/04/2012 08:05 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Machines will either rule the world or we will become merged with machines. The problem with becoming a machine it that someone had access to the shut down, turn off or reboot key. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12582603 Different topic, but I sometimes wonder if there will be such as a thing as biological personalty or intellectual implants. If there was such a thing as intellectual inplants we could all become scientists, engineers and so on. No need for higher education, just an operation A reasonable argument can be made that this sort of capability already exists, albeit in its initial "Ford Model A" form which will get bigger and better. It aint gonna be pretty, but it has to happen. I say let's get on with it. Quoting: carsch go boom 25512421 for all the amazing capabilities (that us plebs couldnt possibly comprehend) machines apparently possess, AI will NEVER beat flesh and bone Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27667491 But by who's rules are you predicting this? An artificial-binary based immortal "being" instantly processing intelligence VS an individually tuned yet overall controlled race with the ones at the top just as different from it as we are. In other words it's an intelligence without any of the evolutionary limitations that plague carbon-based lifeforms. Guess what, Ray? AIN'T GONNA HAPPEN. Yes, you were right to predict decades ago that eventually a computer would be powerful enough to beat all human chess players, but chess can be boiled down to pure mathematics. There is simply no way for any machine to mimic the astonishing intricacy and beautiful nonlinearity of the human mind. We are eternal, cosmic beings, Ray. Please wake the fuck up and figure that out, before you start trying to eat microchips and shit silicon. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 28969583 You are so obviously wrong, I don't even know where to start. No, the poster is right. The only way this computer could mildly pose a threat is if it developed consciousness. There is no way to be certain that the technology will be available for this to happen, for the conditions to be present. Even if this machine developed rudimentary consciousness it may only be as 'smart' as an amoeba for the first while, at best. There is no way to tell how similar or different from human consciousness that would be. No matter how complex and capable Skynet may be of predicting what products we feel like buying based on doing a whole buncha math and number-crunching, it cant predict how we will react from moment to moment based on free will and emotion. Anonymous Coward User ID: 12582603 Canada 12/04/2012 08:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm not familiar enough with AI but I would guess that my mind remembers things different from a computer system. My perceptions would be different. My reasoning would be different. So would my thought process, emotions, beliefs, ideas, ways of reacting to different situations. I think the only thing a computer can help me with is communicating with other people and gathering information and sometimes putting information together. |

Carshy McCarsh (OP) User ID: 1531528 12/04/2012 11:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | According to google and several industry experts, google is already conscious and sentient - for over a year. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25994549 It has participated in leading revolutions. This is actually the most believable conspiracy theory I've heard of from GLP. Perhaps on Dec 21, the announcement is made. Or Googlenet is plugged into a molecular manipulation tool, and it creates a quantum tunneling universe-ruling scepter for itself. Regardless, this enhances the fear I expressed in the original post of this thread: Google and the Obama regime are close, dear friends. Using hyper-intelligence to manipulate human political structures for personal gain is *exactly* what I'd expect from a Democrat. It is, however, a crime against both humanity and the trans-human intelligence they hold hostage. Last Edited by Carshy McCarsh on 12/04/2012 11:12 PM Tell me what this tastes like... |
