Re: Is Hip Hop Dead?
Wikipedia defines hip hop like this:
Hip hop music, also called hip-hop,[1][2] rap music[2][3][4] or hip-hop music,[2][5] is a music genre consisting of a stylized rhythmic music that commonly accompanies rapping, a rhythmic and rhyming speech that is chanted.[2] It developed as part of hip hop culture, a subculture defined by four key stylistic elements: MCing/rapping, DJing/scratching, break dancing, and graffiti writing.[6][7][8] Other elements include sampling (or synthesis), and beatboxing.

Good citizens defines hip hop like this:
A bunch of bums whining people, dressing like zombies, talking like dogs, consuming all kind of drugs, drinking like there's no tomorrow, listening to an annoying noise that sounds like two skeletons dancing on a metal plate, making "graffiti" in good people's walls without permission and always waiting for "the first of the month" when the paycheck comes in. And even so, they call it "culture".

Hope so, hip hop is trash these days. all they talk about is drugs, sex, and money. It's just ghetto. However few rappers that talk about positivity and real world issues, and moving on, remain, such as K'naan.

there's pop-hop, shallow music for clubs and the radio, then there's real RAP, rhythm and poetry. If you say rap is dead or lame, you've judged without experiencing which is stupid and puerile.

Re: Is Hip Hop Dead?
Hip hop is the culture.

Rap is the music.

The purpose is to use it as a platform to share ideas. While the plan has gone awry in regards to most radio songs being about the same trivial garbage, that's not to say it isn't still used for it's initial purpose. The only people who "killed" hip hop are the ones who continue to insist that it's dead.

Most will agree that Pac was\is one of the most respected artists of all time. The reason for it is that he didn't just preach to the choir, but instead, gained fame and exposed a lot of issues in America at the time. He's brought more attention to the existence of the Illuminati (or whatever you wish to call the proverbial PTB) than the combined efforts of everyone on GLP.

Re: Is Hip Hop Dead?
One good lethal pandemic and any of these scenes, movements, subcultures, etc. will be irrelevant. People won't be able to rhyme, rap, play instruments or anything else when they are dying in large quantities while the survivors have their brain stems ravaged by virus and fever.

Really, any scenes or trends are irrelevant in the long run. When the crematoriums are filled to capacity, the current world we inhabit will be but a memory for those whose hippocampus glands aren't destroyed.

Isn't that a fun thought???

OP is racist as #&#@!!

Anyway, I hope mainstream hip hop is dead.

You've got great hip hop artists like Lauryn Hill:

Then you have.. "2Chains" *shudders*

In the last generation, Blacks had poetic, intelligent, cultured, and empowering artist like Erykah Badu:

People who embraced "Blackness" in a positive way, indivisualism, and didn't praise materialism.

Now Black youth are looking up to people like Nicki Minaj.

It's sad what's happening to American culture, no matter what race.

It is not dead but it is definitely going through a transition like it did in the 90's. Its crossing all borders and genres and evolving into something more. Its breaking down barriers while maintaining its roots. Not toi be a thread killer, but it is alive and well. I see videos of diferent artist everywhere, most recently Italy, Spain, Turkey not counting the huge Asian swath of artists. Its a good time to be in hp/hp.

Re: Is Hip Hop Dead?
Hip-Hop was the music that inspired all sorts of people to better themselves and remember themselves Kool Moe Dee "knowledge is king' and "funke wisdom".
Eric B and Rakim "Follow the Leader" was great times for hip hop in the late eighties and early ninety's.
But the dream faded as did the "South" and as the rise gangsta crap emerged and no listened to Charles Heston as he warned the share holders of the repercussions of just seeing dollars in the music and the destruction of all things good in many communities.
Now just listening to the gangsta crap there is a lot of garbage in it designed to bring the types (idiots) to it in to variable states of hypnotism, aggression seems to rise.
A friend said to me "That you never let others rent space in your head", just think it has been known for years disney is the worst at subliminals visual and layered crap in the music ( worst sort of fairy-tail existence no kid would really want) and the gangsta crap is the perfect example of mind-fucking a generation or 2 of their inheritance and what their elders fought for.
But hey everyone has a musical taste and preference of music for me is the stuff where real creativity exists.
Listen carefully to the music and most of the words spoken by illiterates has no meaning because of the lack of learning involved in the individuals.
"Life without thought is no life at all"
Graceless and Skeptical as hell!!!
"Self discipline gets things done. Making a plan and then sticking to that plan despite our inner weaknesses and apprehensions gives greater returns in the long run. This method not only earns the respect we hold for ourselves, but also the respect others hold for us. The flaky and indecisive cannot be relied upon."
