once upon a time...

everyday a cat tried vainly to catch a mouse; but the mouse was too fast and nimble to be caught by the cat, and it always escaped into a tiny hole. the frustrated cat came up with a cunning plan to coax the mouse out. it decided to create a mousetrap and gave it the title 'religion'. the cat bellowed into the hole, 'hey little mouse, have you heard of that place where mice go to when they die? they go to a place called hell and a scary monster called satan throws them into a lake of fire, where the mice will burn for eternity'. the mouse replied, 'i've never heard of that place'. the cat replied, 'all mice are born into a thing called sin, and all sinners burn in hell, but if you follow me i will show you how to become perfect and you will go to a beautiful place called heaven and you will stay there forever. the little mouse decided to heed the cat's words and emerged from it's hiding place. the cat told the mouse, 'i am now your lord and master; remember what i said: follow in my footsteps and you will get into heaven and if you don't, you will go to hell'. so the mouse tried to follow the cat's footsteps. now as the mouse followed the cat, the cat turned and clawed the poor little creature. 'but why did you do that, lord? i am following you as you asked' said the mouse. the cat replied, 'you put a foot out of place and this is called sin. sinners need to be punished or they go to hell, so don't do it again. follow in my footsteps, i said!'. the mouse said, 'but lord, you take such big strides, i am just a small mouse and it is hard for me to fulfill your every footstep'. 'if you don't do as i say, then you will be punished even more and you will burn in hell', replied the cat. so they continued onwards and the cat continued to scratch the mouse everytime it put a foot out of place, until it eventually scratched out it's eyes. the horrendously wounded mouse could no longer continue following the cat; it collapsed and cried out, 'lord, you told me to follow you, and i tried my best, but i am too wounded and can no longer follow your footsteps because i can no longer see. now i'm about to die and will go to hell!'. 'foolish rodent!' said the cat, 'you have been trying to avoid going to hell the whole time, but you've been through hell with every step you took, and now you're too wounded and blinded to find your way back. now i'm going to eat you'.
