In 2008, the decision was made to extend the program to prepaid cellphone companies, which get up to $10 every month that someone is subscribed.
This has caused a large increase in the number of persons enrolled in the program.
Before 2008, it only covered "land lines".

The initial program, called Life Line was a great idea- discount local phone service so old folks on Medicaid could make their doctors appointments, keep in touch with family and friends. Not be suckered into buying air time for their new cell phone. Unlimited local landline calling (which the phone companies where happy to to donate, as it costs them next to nothing) or 35 minutes a month? If you want more you have to pay. How much of a "lifeline" is 35 min?
Lifeline kept them in touch, Obamaphone lines the pockets of this Mexican dude, Carlos Slim, at the expense of the poor.

The shortage in your patience might be directed more accurately at her or perhaps, others with similar misconceptions about what the "Obama phones" really are. Most people refer to "Obama phones" in a proverbial sense to imply that supporters of the aforementioned president are inclined to want hand outs and reelected him into office simply because they are lazy.

It was for our families to apply for free cell phones, with 250 minutes and 250 texts per month. So we're pushing the client families to apply for these free Obama phones.
