Photos of a Few of the Large Burial Mounds Near Newark, Ohio
Many have traveled to Newark, Ohio to see the circle and octagon earthworks. Near, Newark are some of Ohio's largest burial mounds that are not promoted as tourist destinations by the Ohio Historical Society.
I photographed a few of these mound sites near Newark and posted them on this blog.

.

"Burial mounds" ?

No doubt they were used later by others for burials...
but was that the original purpose of the builders ?

When I was a child I went with my father
on an archaeology trip to a mound [built
by the mysterious "mound builders"] in
Mississippi. The mount was in the shape
of a bird flying west and all around the
mount were thousands of clay balls - most
the size that could fit in a man's hand.
No one knew their exact purpose.

Some intrusive burials are found in some of the mounds, but very few. I will post on the Glenford Fort and the Yost Works that are within a few miles of the mound sites I just posted.

I've read many books on these mounds, they are fascinationg.

I especially like the books and videos from Carl Munk.
He did extensive scientific research on these mounds as well as the pyramids around the world and came to some outstanding conclusions.

also I noticed that limestone plays a very large factor in the area.

Good luck on your research.

Re: Photos of a Few of the Large Burial Mounds Near Newark, Ohio
It's nice to see that the mounds are calling to you, like they did for me about 10 years ago.

I am from the Zanesville, Ohio area, and spent a lot of time in my mid-twenties exploring the mounds and earthworks(newark, chillocothe, adams county, etc.) I probably visited 50 of them at least. I spent many years studying them, visiting them, pondering their stories, even gaining paid employment at one site.

I was actually quite obsessed with them...and now I understand that the mounds call to certain people...when you visit them you are drawing earth energy and fixing that little spot on Mother Earth.

Call this crazy, but I believe the mound energies healed me (in the way that I had a realization about society and it's direction..)and re-directed my path in life.

From visiting these sacred spots, I was drawn closer to Mother Earth, and realized that my life path was not honoring the spirit of her creation. From then I made decisions that have led me on an amazing and beautiful ride through life.

Anyhow, please keep visiting these sacred sites, working the energy, and spreading the good word. (nice website, by the way.)
