Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
I'm 24 weeks pregnant and am currently struggling since I just got a new home. It really took a chunk out of my savings. I was wondering if someone could send me some websites I could go to to ask for help for newborn items, any help would work. Please help and keep the negatives to yourself.

Congrats on your pregnancy. I wish I was pregnant. Instead, every time I get pregnant I miscarry. We have had three losses since December 2011.

I don't know of any sites that offer assistance to pregnant woman but have you considered asking friends, family and coworkers for their baby items that they no longer need?

Also, I'll bet you could find excellent deals on newborn clothing either on eBay or at thrift stores. Considering how fast newborns grow they don't wear their clothing long enough to wear it out.

Re: Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
try freecycle.com and also the local craigslist.com

Freecycle has free items and is a yahoo based website. You say you need/want baby items, and you may or may not get a response. Some people also offer baby items so all you need to do is e-mail them.

People normally want money on craigslist, but I'm sure that they may give stuff to you if you tell them your position. Craigslist also has a "free" section which sometimes has baby stuff.

God Bless you and the baby, and congratulations as well

You probably are deficient in vitamin D that is responsible for miscarriage. Google it. I've seen a study that high dose vitamin D throughout pregnancy really cut down medical complications, i think 4000 or 5000 IU a day. If you're trying again, start taking 10,000 IU a day to fix deficiency after 3 months then cut back to 5000 IU a day for the rest of your life. Same for your hubby.

Where is the father? Why isn't he helping you?

Why are you pregnant with a child you can't afford?

Why aren't you receiving assistance from your county or state?

Or.. the husband could be RH+ and wife is RH-.

The + gene is looked at by the RH- body as a foreign body that must be eliminated. (It's an "additional gene" that does not exist in the mother - therefore, unnatural.)

No other species on this planet has this issue with their own species...

Re: Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
You'll probably have much better luck looking in your local area. Look for pro-life organizations and low-income clinics (if you qualify) - often they offer baby stuff in exchange for parenting classes, attending appointments, and so on, or may be able to point you at other resources.

Check your local freecycle. Some are better than others.

Get involved with parenting groups or groups that include lots of parents, and you'll likely get hand-me-down offers.

Most importantly, re-examine what you *need*. Preparing for a baby does not have to be expensive. Trust me, I've done it twice while dead broke. You don't need half of what society and retailers say you do. Clothing (cheap at thrift stores and yard sales), somewhere safe to sleep (having the baby sleep in your bed is safe if you're not stupid about it), something to eat (breastfeeding is basically free, making baby food is easy, cheap, and healthy), diapers (cloth diapers can be cheap if you have your own washing machine, and if you have any sewing skills you can make them out of old t-shirts very easily), and a decent car seat.

EVERYTHING else is all about convenience and marketing. Don't let the marketing make you think that you need more than you really do.

bump

and to 'sigh', I am getting married in December, (just to make it legal, ceremony we will have somewhere private in the woods with small amount of friends)

Fiance DOES work, is a supervisor for a screenprinting company. Still does not make nearly enough to support ALL of the needs of a child. Shouldn't have had a child then? We're not absolutely poor, just could use a boost of help.

Another idea is to ride around in the "richest neighborhood" closest to you on any Friday or Saturday morning at 6am when the temperature is 60F+.

Yard sales in rich neighborhoods can yield pretty good deals.

Hardly used infant clothes for $0.25 - $0.50/ea.

OP, alot of towns and cities have baby consignment shops, too. Most of the items are gently used and sometimes almost brand new for pennies on the dollar.

Re: Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
There is probably a Pregnancy Center in your area.

They help w/ maternity clothes, even free sonograms in some areas. They'll also help w/ baby clothes and possibly set you up with other agencies that can help when the baby is born.

They are generally about trying to do anything to help to stop an abortion.

Re: Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
had 3 boys and even though we were financially ok, I let friends and family know that I'd like to buy baby items. also went to lots of yard sales and rarely had to buy anything new. I breastfed and I worked full-time different shifts---takes a few days and your body adjusts. Supplemented with formula and rice cereal. Also, I wrote to the formula companies and a few sent me coupons and one even sent me a huge box of forumula, bottles and baby toys! I used disposable diapers since I worked full-time but used the off brand except for nights. Also, some facebook sites have yardsale pages. Niece uses this site alot. I didn't waste money on fancy things and have no regrets.

Yes, my reproductive endocrinologist said I was Vit D deficient per blood test results. He has me on a high dose to bring up my level but even after taking that for several months it didn't stop me from miscarrying again last month. We have had every test possible and still no answers as to why I keep miscarrying.

Re: Any Websites or Charities to Help Pregnant Women?
If you use facebook, put on it that you are looking for people's unwanted baby items. Lots of people are more then happy to give away all the stuff from their last baby, if it's going to someone they know.

You can put an ad on craigslist as well, but never meet with anyone alone!!! I repeat, never meet with anyone on craigslist alone if you are pregnant, and never give your home address for phone number. (You don't want to know.)

Good luck.
