Why is it not o.k. to litter unless you are a smoker? Then it's perfectly ok to throw cigarette butts on the ground.

No, it's not acceptable. Only a douche throws their butts on the ground and only another douche finds it "acceptable". I was a smoker for years and I would always put mine out on the ground and find a suitable place to dispose of it (trash can or dumpster) or I'd put it in my cig pack until I could dispose of it properly.

Well, if we smokers weren't persecuted as such (having to go outside to smoke) there wouldn't be butts all over the ground.

I know a few smokers that would never drop a butt on the ground.

But they WILL flip one out of a car window.

Im sure throwing butts on the ground counts as littering just as much. Though like other types of littering, people do it anyway.

Who says it's acceptable? I'm a smoker, and I don't ever throw butts on the ground. I think it's a terrible thing to do.

I try to put my cig butts in the ash tray most the time but I do throw them on the ground once in a while. I justify my throwing them on the ground because I pay tax that goes for street sweeping and water drainage.

I used to let people smoke out in my yard, and I had the same question. Now if they want to smoke they have to go out to the road. Not too many takers on the 100 yard walk out to the road. Maybe the smokers couldn't walk that far without a rest stop.

Throwing them all over the place gives someone a job to clean it up.

If you anti-tobacco people are so worried about the environment, there are much more destructive operations going on than throwing some butts around that are going to degrade in a few years. You've already demonized smokers by gouging taxes, banning smoking indoors, having cops harass us for smoking too close to a door, forcing private businesses to follow your anti-smoking laws, gouging health insurance for smokers, discriminating against smokers in the workplace, overhyping the dangers of second hand smoke.

Keep on throwing your styrofoam and plastic all over the place and dumping toxic waste into the ocean while scapegoating smokers minor flaws.

If people spent as much time on trying to make sure our country was run correctly than using every spare minute to criticize and crucify every other citizen they see then i think we might have a great country again.

There is a very good reason you moron. When I buy a pack of cigarettes, the government makes more on it because of their draconian taxes then the actual cigarette company.

I don't get it, why don't they make the filter part biodegradable? I've visited this really wonderful place for decades and there's always these ancient cigarette butts that people leave behind. It's just odd since they came to visit because it's beautiful.

Smoking is fine if you smoke like the Native Americans used to, in very small amounts. What someone does isn't any of my business anyway until they leave their crap laying out.

Or sometimes a fire is started because someone hurled a butt out the window and was still lit and it fell into some mulch. It's just odd.
