Here in the US we used to have Steuben Glass and I watched them blowing the magnificent crystal there as well, but alas times and tastes have changed and I believe they have closed down Steuben...all those skills we are losing, very sad thank you for posting |

Some people here says that its already died :( Craftsmen like Mazzuccato were becoming a rarity in Murano. The island is synonymous with the intricate work most people refer to as Venetian glass. Craftsmen here have been making glass for a millennium. Local glassmakers estimate about half of Murano’s glass now is made in China or elsewhere. The thousands who used to work in the glass industry have dwindled to hundreds. Even the industrial glass factories are shutting down. full article here: [link to www.thecultureist.com] |
