Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12786780 No it's mainstream in a huge way, so how does a show in 2002 predict something to happen on Dec 22 2012? A show about aliens............ Nah, the date was totally out there back then. I knew about it, and I'm no more than a casual conspiracy junky. The writers of a show with a basic premise of conspiracy and paranormal are going to be aware of the theories that are out there. It's safe to assume the writers were aware of the whole Mayan prophecy theory and chose the date specifically. if the date was 'totally out there back then' why didn't they use the correct date instead of the 22nd? Here's a thread from alt.tv.x-files back in 1998: [link to groups.google.com (secure)] I couldn't tell you why they said the 22nd, but I think that adequately shows that it wasn't exactly unknown then. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12786780 Is it not safe to assume that the writers of a show with the subject matter covered in the X-Files would be part of the .05%, or at least aware of what they're talking about? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12786780 WTF>>>>>>>> Mars is in the news in a big way plus the Dec22 2012 in the show. Wake up people You're a frickin idiot, dude. Wake Up! Ignore the douche... you're right, I don't know how that helps the 60% + on this site that are already awake and knew this. I may not have realized that it was leaked in this show, but I am aware that Hollywood has been screaming this in subtle ways for decades. I remember watching the x-files in the 90's and knowing they were writing 'faction' based on the pop culture of the conspiracy theorists and I was a teenager. no real digging there. just good 'faction' |

FYI, the whole mayan calendar theory has been around since at least the '70s, I used to watch the T.V. show "In Search Of" with Leonard Nimoy, it was about doomsday theories, it ran about '77 or '78 I think, I'm sure you can find it in someones archives, it did have the date 21/DEC/12. Legitimate reports, personal accounts, and even fairy tales were a few of the many sources that the writers called upon and anything 2012 related was probably used. |
