the link says exactly what it is, theres not much wondering to do about it. the geminid meteor shower happens every year, and comes from the same source. nowhere in the article does it say it will hit earth or even hint at the possibility of it

The same as it was last year, a meteor shower, but the debris comes from an asteroid not a comet, I would expect they have just chosen the wrong object as the parent though, or if they can't find the comet it's probably completely disintegrated by now, or the asteroid is the core of an ex comet, We don't know everything about space, it's quite possible that comets have a core that is not ice based.
