Anonymous Coward User ID: 20566260 United States 12/05/2012 10:31 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ty above poster! U know I love this thread.... These are my second fave types of movies. My first fave is survivor movies (which I guess....could relate to these as well). But I am talking movies where people are literally trapped and fighting their way for life. Those are the ultimate.....sure I have seen those all. I signed back up for Netflix hoping to watch some of these posters suggestions, but alas...Netflix is not delivering some of these. I will probably have to go through my Apple TV to rent. Ugh!!! |

It's not on many people's radar as it's an Irish film. It's about an unknown emergency that results in a collapse. The people in that area don't know why the power went off. It just stays off. There's nothing on the radio to explain it. They begin to run low on food. They have no way to pay the police. What I like about it is the way that even two close couples get on each other's nerves after a very short time. It makes the situation very personal versus these big blockbusters with effects and little story. It's grim, because they decide to alter their morals to survive. Another film which a lot of people probably haven't seen is The Trigger Effect. It's similar. Finally a French film...the Time of the Wolf is about an ecological disaster or a plague or both which poisons a lot of water. It causes people to flee to the country, and then of course issues with bugging out, violence, people going insane with the grief, etc. There's a lot of apocalyptic films, it depends upon how you define it. There's the French film Strayed which is about wartime France, and refugees fleeing to the South. That one is controversial, but a lot of film is that way. Good to see for Americans since we haven't had to fight a battle on our home soil since the American Civil War. How would refugees respond in an emergency? What happens if you're caught looting? What would life be like in a refugee camp? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 27211004 Canada 12/08/2012 06:43 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm going to be watching Apocalyptic-themed movies during the week of the 21st. Some are available on demand, some are available on NetFlix or Amazon.com, here's what I have on my list so far: Quoting: firm1324 1) 2012 2) Deep Impact 3) Knowing 4) Armageddon 5) End of Days >> Any other recommendations? Surprised no one has mentioned the Left Behind movies yet. Chirstian movies. A main character is portrayed as a news reporter. How can you christians be so blind as to think the media is on the level. How can you not see it is controlled by the jews, as is hollywood, the banks and on and on? The only real answer possible is you all are sheep. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1110734 United States 12/10/2012 07:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Silent Running is truly an interesting film. The premise is that the rare species are no longer important enough to stay on Earth, so they launch a space station in geosynch orbit, and three guys maintain it. Well only one really cares and he's wound up pretty tight. There's cutbacks, and he loses it. Now we've actually done something like that by having rare species in botanical parks, but also we have seed vaults in the Arctic in case of a ecological disaster. It's worth seeing, but it's very dated. Note that Doug Trumball did the special effects way before Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and went on to bigger things. Bruce Dern stars and was a very unknown actor at the time. He'd been in the Cowboys, a John Wayne flick as a heavy. The scenes with the space station orbiting and lush forests as well as the scenes with the robots interacting with Bruce Dern make it work watching. They don't make ecological films really anymore. I guess they're irrelevant to most people. It's a very unusual science fiction film. |

Quoting: Fun-Da-Mental At least in Knowing we are gone in a blast.. Did you watch Testament? The first time I watched it, I felt like the nuclear arms race was just hopeless. Thank God, nothing ever happened. It's hard to explain to a young person just how constant the threat was back then. I think a lot of people felt like it was inevitable. |
