I did it at 18 and both my boys did as well, no way around. Just a waiver for school.

Did my time im out with a honorable discharge.And i was deployed overseas .I would not serve under obama for nothing i would rather be locked up if they could find me and it would become very expencive screw obama bush2 and bush 1 we could of got 15k for gulf 1 and bush said no even my uncles that fought in ww2 are asking why they put the time in for this state of affairs i was 17 and stupid and the va screwes the veterans a long line of vets in my family .this is not why we fought .clinton draft dodger bush 2 only in america can a homeless vet sleep in the streets wile a draft doger sleeps in the whitehouse

That's because your kids are slaves to the government. They decide if they want to send them to war, whenever they feel like it.

At my high school they gave us the form, and thinking about it so did my 21 year old. He came home with it.....

Even before this, our country has a long history of drafting citizens to serve in the armed forces.

From 1948 until 1973, during both peacetime and periods of conflict, men were drafted to fill vacancies in the armed forces which could not be filled through voluntary means.

In 1973, the draft ended and the U.S. converted to an All-Volunteer military.

The registration requirement was suspended in April 1975. It was resumed again in 1980 by President Carter in response to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Registration continues today as a hedge against underestimating the number of servicemen needed in a future crisis.

Yes, 18 yo must register with the draft.

Mine were told all about this at school and think even someone came by and passed out forms. Years ago, however, but the law is the same.

It doesn't mean he's going to be drafted, just the govt knowing who would be available should a draft be called which is highly unlikely.

ALL MALES are SUPPOSED to register on their 18 th Bday!! They DO TELL THEM THIS IN SCHOOL as well as they have recruiters that come to their schools and talk to them about it...and the recruiters ALSO. Tell them thwy have to register on their 18 th bday.

Didn't mean to sound superior. Was replying to a poster who said Americans are stupid. The news I listen to now doesn't talk about wars or drafts, that's all. Dealing with the 'Viet Nam show' on tv 24/7 for years on end back in the 60's I guess I'm sick of it, that's all. Like watching the twin tower footage over and over and over and over for years on end. Had my share of all the man made shock and awe.
