Provide the ER your insurance info. (Health Ins.) Your coverage companies, Health and Auto will go after the other party. It's called Subrogation. Justalittlebad/more or less |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28920579 12/04/2012 09:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Like the poster above who is an insurance adjustor said, go to the ER if you have pain and can't see your doctor or wait til tomorrow and see your doctor; Call insurance company immediately and open a claim; Contact a personal injury attorney, they will get estimate of property damage and probably have you see a physician to get checked out. This might and probably will entail some physical therapy appointments because it sounds like you were hit fairly hard and it doesn't take much to incur a back/spine injury due to this type of accident. Your attorney will act on your behalf with regards to your insurance company as well as that of the other party. If you hire an attorney you should never talk to the other party's carrier or your carrier for that matter, this is why you hired your attorney; When you get to this point you will understand the process and hopefully will receive a fair and equitable settlement to compensate you for any property damage and physical injury. That's it in a nutshell if you go the legal route using an attorney. |

I was dumb and told her everything was fine until a couple days later when I went to open my trunk and it wouldn't open!!! Cost me lots to repair it. I'll never do that again, always take the persons info and license, insurance etc... and report it. I learned the hard way. Good luck OP. |

Do not be shy about going straight to the ER TONIGHT and complaining about the pain. The ER people are used to seeing people in pain so make sure you make it clear that you are in PAIN. Ask for a prescription for pain medication. You can throw the meds away later if so inclined (they are very addicting anyway) but DO accept and fill the prescription. When it comes time to sue the other party, the person with the most paperwork wins. Also, you will be re-imbursed for time lost at work, so don't tough it out by showing up at the office if you are in pain. Sorry to inform you that whiplash is MUCH worse the next day. It causes inability to focus. It also makes it hard to stay asleep. Be sure you mention these symptoms to doctors if you have them, and be sure you see the doctor actually *write down your complaints* so that when it comes time to sue you will have the appropriate documentation. MOST IMPORTANT: Get thee to a chiropractor first thing in the morning, even if you have to pay out of pocket (insurance rarely covers chiropractic, except sometimes it covers the xrays). Going to the ER is solely for the purpose of documentation that you were in pain, and to get a prescription for pain meds. The chiropractor can actually help you get well, but the sooner you see them the better for your long term situation. I'm sorry this happened to you. It has happened to me several times, no fun at all. |
| Anonymous Coward User ID: 28460200 12/04/2012 09:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Make sure you do not give any insurance adjuster a recorded statement. They will ask you if they can record you for their records when in fact all they are doing is trying to get you to say you've have some type of pre existing injury no matter what it was even if you've been to the doctor 20 years ago about your neck or back they will try and blame it on that. So NO recorded statements please. Get an attorney right away and don't try and handle this on your own. |

| Anonymous Coward User ID: 6383062 12/04/2012 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got rear ended today by some idiot not paying attention. Slammed into me pretty good. The rear of my car is pretty jacked and my back is hurting something awful. I whiplashed into my seat and was pretty out of it when the cop gathered information. So needless to say I didn't get any of the guys information but the cop said the report will be ready in 3 days. I got checked out by the paramedics and they said if my back still hurt in a couple of hours to go to the hospital. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24227431 I called my insurance when I got home, but does anyone have any advice to make sure that I don't get hosed over by the insurance companies. Should I go to the hospital just in case? A few hours after the accident, and you're still running on adrenaline. Your injuries are probably more serious than you now realize and will manifest more completely over the next few weeks. Yes, go to the ER, NOW. Take the scripts they give you. Follow up with your doctor as many times as you need to. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING STARTING NOW! Keep a notebook handy and jot down the dates and times of every relevant event (i.e. trips to the hospital, doctor, phone conversations, etc. Just went through this with an elderly neighbor who did not do the above and is getting screwed because of it. |
