New DVR will use camera and microphone to target advertisements

Not much good for those who don't watch the crap they pump out. If a person buys a DVR I'm sure they'll sit through adverts.

Commercial TV is on it's last gasps when it's air time is dedicated to to adverts. As the quality of TV reduces, so the advert time increases. Lose, lose!

I don't have a DVR. It's not a money issue. I have that huge (40ish channels) all the movie channels package. So I can find about anything I want on live TV or on demand. I also don't have HDTV box. Even though my TV is HDTV capable. Granted I have a monster of a LCD, but I find HDTV and a DVR box just a waste. I also have netflix through my dumb Wii. That's the only reason I have it hooked up, lol.

You should see when people come over and see I DON'T have a DVR box or and HDTV capable box. They almost freak the fuck out. Especially when they see that my TV is HDTV.

Some up to date technology and gadgets is cool. But why do we seem to have the NEED to have the new, best and top item ASAP??? Like people with Apple products. I have the iPad, oh the mini just came out, I need that. Oh, I don't care if its smaller and not much "inside" is better, IT IS NEW! YEAH!

Open the box and cut the wires going to the mic and camera. Better yet, just ditch tv/dvr alltogether.

Anyone with XBOX 360 has a camera, microphone and imaging technology surveying their home already.

I think it is already done on FuckBook. I get a lot of ads (never click on them, though HAHAHAHA) that are very specific to things I like, and talk about.

I bet that if, in the future, the government makes it mandatory that each DVR box comes with it's own federal agent to sit on the couch and monitor you, people would still do it.

This is already happening with Gmail. After discussing an item that I was asking my friend to bring to a function, I started getting advertisements for that item. Got rid of that email address pronto!

I have a nice TV for video games, and I have a Blueray player. Although when I play my SNES or Sega gen the 60 inch screen really just makes the blocks bigger. lol
