Looking for ideas on how to charge broken laptop...
Ok glp, maybe one of you can help me out. I have a laptop I bought from best buy with a warranty. It was having fan issues and overheating then my dear husband dropped it off the sofa. If fell on the charger and mangled the 'girl part' of the charging situation. Now I can't charge it.

My main issue here is that I had some recent pictures that weren't backed up and I would love to recover them before I take the comp in, I just know they will replace it over repairing it. Money is tight right now an I can't pay that much to get my data off.

I know it's not a conspiracy, but I'm hoping you all can find it in your hearts to help me out :)

Anyone know how to charge this bad boy up without a charging port?? Any ideas??

that really doesn't sound like an issue that would cause you to lose any data, you should just take it in so you don't mess up your warranty and maybe they'll replace the charger part too

find the model number on the charger
go to pricegrabber dot com and enter that model number
OR to google and search model number and then click "shopping"
find replacement part for 10-20 dollars

OR go to best buy and spend 80-100

I'm hoping it isn't, but with the fans and the overheating before this happened... I'm not sure. They told me if it was more to fix then replace they would replace it. The screen was even turning off by itself sometimes, only to return with windows alerting me it had recover the an issues with the display drivers. I'm still covered till early next year.

The model would definitely matter since I would suggest buying this stand alone charger.

Again...the model number is important to purchase the correct one.

if they replace the laptop w/ the same model there is absolutely no reason they (or you) can not just put the old HD in the new laptop, especially if all the problems you are having are related to the case (screen, fans, etc)

Yeah, you can't do much with that. I'd recommend a third party charger but it would be foolish to spend the money on one just to replace the laptop.

I'd work with Best Buy to swap the hard drive over or to move your data (there is an app to migrate machines) - it will cost about the same as a third party charger and you'll be all set.

Thats why everyone should buy apple. If your laptop breaks they move everything off the old one to the new one in the service depot because they're super nice and macs are easy.

That and time machine. Macs rock.
