Looking for ideas on how to charge broken laptop... | |
Burt Gummer User ID: 7702124 United States 12/05/2012 01:32 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Ok glp, maybe one of you can help me out. I have a laptop I bought from best buy with a warranty. It was having fan issues and overheating then my dear husband dropped it off the sofa. If fell on the charger and mangled the 'girl part' of the charging situation. Now I can't charge it. Quoting: Chargetard 28641038 My main issue here is that I had some recent pictures that weren't backed up and I would love to recover them before I take the comp in, I just know they will replace it over repairing it. Money is tight right now an I can't pay that much to get my data off. I know it's not a conspiracy, but I'm hoping you all can find it in your hearts to help me out :) Anyone know how to charge this bad boy up without a charging port?? Any ideas?? Make and model of laptop? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28091463 United States 12/05/2012 01:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | that really doesn't sound like an issue that would cause you to lose any data, you should just take it in so you don't mess up your warranty and maybe they'll replace the charger part too Quoting: scorpio66 I'm hoping it isn't, but with the fans and the overheating before this happened... I'm not sure. They told me if it was more to fix then replace they would replace it. The screen was even turning off by itself sometimes, only to return with windows alerting me it had recover the an issues with the display drivers. I'm still covered till early next year. |

I'd recommend a third party charger but it would be foolish to spend the money on one just to replace the laptop. I'd work with Best Buy to swap the hard drive over or to move your data (there is an app to migrate machines) - it will cost about the same as a third party charger and you'll be all set. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28159328 United States 12/05/2012 02:00 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if they replace the laptop w/ the same model there is absolutely no reason they (or you) can not just put the old HD in the new laptop, especially if all the problems you are having are related to the case (screen, fans, etc) Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1595910 Well apparently once it's shipped off you have no say. You either back it up yourself or there OR you lose everything if they have to replace it. If I'm understanding them right they don't switch out hard drives. But I do have a few questions I'm going to look into tomorrow and that's something to at least ask! Thanks! |
