All depends.
If its on my property then its mine and only I decide if and what I want someone to pick if anything. There is a deal with garbage company where you specify how they pick it from you. When they come its their property from that moment.

Its NEVER public property here. There are public garbage dumps but those in fact have an owner. ALWAYS. There is the owner and company which is assigned to it. There are specific deals that say who is responsible for which part and the garbage is never 'free'.
Throwing garbage is a crime if you do not pay and you always have place for it. More. You need to utilize everything. You pay fee for TVs bikes furniture etc. You cant just put it anywhere like that. Many ppl do it but its illegal. You can give it to charity or make a free advert in local press or net but you cant put it openly in public (only on private property).
There are also more and more closed 'public' garbage dumps making it obvious its not free stuff. They try to close all of them. There is in fact no 'public' garbage and trash. There is always an owner and there are alway independent companies who utilize and pick it. In fact it isnt a public service but private business.

I know many are doing it ignoring the law and its mostly ignored. Its just minor crime here and police mostly do not care. It slowly starts beign put in use and Im happy bout that since Im tired of garbage beign thrown around and the mess that the divers make.
You wanna something free? There are other ways of getting it.

I'm a proud picker and dumpster diver. It's made me a lot of money. Picking is perfectly legal where I live so long as the "trash" is on the curb. It's illegal to trespass on someone's lawn. That's reasonable, of course.

What I don't get is how the fascists here at GLP are so opposed to something as intelligent and innocent as picking or dumpster diving. Frankly, I'm glad that you guys are put off by it. That's what makes it one of the best-kept secrets to making money. LOL.

It's just an invasion of privacy. It is not proper to to go through someones garbage because sometimes people throw away personal stuff and its not for others tosee.

don't Ever put personal info in the trash and if you recycle no probs with people getting injured from the items you 'threw away'

Tell that to private investigators and police detectives--2 groups who go through trash regularly.

If the trash is on the curb, then it's public property. That's why you should shred everything important. There are identity theives out there, ya know. We pickers don't mess with house garbage. We don't go through trash bags or even open them. We get furniture and other items that are out in the open. If we see something good, we stop and load it up. We don't go house to house rifling through trash. Identity theives do though.

Once something has been deposited in a trash barrel it is open season according to the FBI, etal, who then can read anything you have left there. So how is it against the law to take something else out of it that is NOT food stuff, so inherently not a health problem???
