I didn't read the post, but what does it take from an Adult to reason with a child? The problem is, is that emotional juveniles are having children. Somehow in human culture large numbers of adults aren't growing up. This is why there is reason. Even most animals know where their future is, and follow the rules. I have studied most religions and it's sad to be honest.

I will say it again ; it should be obvious to anyone, that its possible to be a spiritual person who practices a religion, without hurting anyone else. Sick people, who inflicts pain and violence upon others due to their personal pain or just good old fashioned evil, will always be inspired or use things to excuse them selves. eg. religion.
That is the essence of them being sick. A sane, sensible person will NOT be inspired to do evil when they read the bible. A sick individual will.

It's interesting how Jesus through out one weird OT command after another. He upheld the moral law. However, He held the ceremonial law in contempt. He would not allow the pharisees to stone a woman although they thought that the OT gave them the right to do so.

If we all we had was the OT, I wouldn't like religion either. But, Jesus, he is wholly different.

For the life of me, I can't understand why judeo-christians want to go back to the OT, when the NT is infinitely superior in every way.

I get so annoyed at people who like to give advice on child rearing, specifically those who have told me we need to be "tougher" on our kids.

Our kids are doing very well in school, have friends, are respectful to others and, I hope, feel loved.

We didn't accomplish this through Bible reading, beating or spanking. We accomplished this through respecting the children. That doesn't mean allowing them to walk all over us. But it means having conversations and listening to them when they are troubled, and, yes, owning up to our own mistakes. Maybe it comes down to treating children like they are humans, not slaves.

I was just thinking this article sounded similar to BBC anti-religion propaganda. However, Islam is very different than what we see in the Bible or from Christians as a whole. There are the odd cases such as this but it is not supported by the Bible or Christianity, as it is with Islam.
