Quoting: tandym Well, Obamacare makes it really easy now for employers to eliminate employee benefits since the fines to pay for not insuring employees are cheaper that the employer contributions if they are part of the plan. Basically, Obama gave all these businesses a nice cost shift break to reduce their overhead in paying for health insurance. Yeah. I'm sure they are all relieved to finally have it too. |

And of course the less we give the government the more "we the people" can try to help out each other. Thinking like this kills innovation. There will no longer be any incentive to excel. Are you really that stupid or just that shallow? Your suggesting that giving to the government, the great bastion of efficiency, is going to help innovation? /wtf EDITED TO ADD Sorry I think I misread you AC. OK, I know I'm not an American, but the wages they are giving as examples here are so far above what we make together as a couple, never mind alone, that I struggle to comprehend. $100,000.00 and $113,000.00 for wages... Dam, sign me up! I'd need a telescope to see those wages, based on where I am. Can someone clarify, if this truly is considered a "base" wage, because I can assure you, that is considered a VERY high wage here. No that's not base salary, it's wage base, totally different thing, it's the upper limit subject to the social security tax multiplier. [link to www.ssa.gov] <<<Social Security's Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program limits the amount of earnings subject to taxation for a given year. The same annual limit also applies when those earnings are used in a benefit computation. This limit changes each year with changes in the national average wage index. We call this annual limit the contribution and benefit base. For earnings in 2013, this base is $113,700. The OASDI tax rate for wages paid in 2013 is set by statute at 6.2 percent for employees and employers, each. Thus, an individual with wages equal to or larger than $113,700 would contribute $7,049.40 to the OASDI program in 2013, and his or her employer would contribute the same amount. The OASDI tax rate for self-employment income in 2013 is 12.4 percent.>>> |

High-income Californians may pay nation's highest tax rate Thanks to passage of Proposition 30 last month, high-income Californians would pay the nation's highest marginal income tax rates -- nearly 52 percent -- if President Barack Obama and Congress fail to make a deal to avoid the so-called "fiscal cliff," according to a new study. Without a fiscal cliff deal to the contrary, the Bush era tax cuts on high-income taxpayers would expire next year and rates would return to their previous levels. That action raised California over other high-tax jurisdictions to a marginal rate of 51.9 percent, slightly higher than New York City's level. Hawaii was the only other place with a calculated rate above 50 percent. Read more here: [link to blogs.sacbee.com] The truth is incontrovertible.
