I like that style! I have ultra long hair (see avatar, LOL), and it has grown past my hips. As a women in my 40s, I am often told by other women I should cut my hair short, that my long hair makes me look like a hippie. I don't think I look like a hippie - I wear clean and pretty clothes, and keep my hair up in beautiful updos with nice accessories. I like having long hair; I feel that it protects my power, my own energy source. I like being a woman, having long hair. I think that as women age, we fear losing so many parts of our identity; our beauty, our softness, our ability to catch the eye of men (or women). And our fears can drive us to do things like cut our hair in a "young" style, or to dress like a teenager, or to react in the opposite way and to become the dowdy middle-aged hag that we so desperately don't want to be. Media and culture has give us unrealistic ideals. They have tried to teach us that men will drop us for young things, they have tried to brainwash us into believing that our worth is only as strong as our ability to bleed red once a month. But we are so much more than these beliefs. We are half of humanity, and we fit perfectly with the other half. (Not to say anything negative about my lesbian sisters, as they have an important role to fill, too, I believe.) Our lives as women allow us to explore our intuition, our abilities to be empathic and kind. We are loving, important, desirable, even in our middle and older ages. I wish more women understood this. I know all of the beautiful and sexy women here at GLP know this already, and I am grateful for your presence. Anyway, OP, just love your wife, keep telling her that she is important, loving, empathic, sexy, a force for good in this fine world. The hair can grow, can continue to reflect what resides inside her mind and body. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 21922850 United States 12/05/2012 04:38 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well OP, my wife lost all of her hair last year to cancer. Now since it grew back, she keeps short, kinda like the old Jamie Lee Curtis look. I tell her I love her hair short, simply because I love her. When I looked at her when she was bald, I didn't notice "no hair", because thats what love is. Are you really in love with her? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13718332 This. My neighbor died last month, and she was such a great lady, bald and all. Priorities and all that. |

The thing about age 45+ males is testosterone is dropping like a rock and if they had been hitting it like they should have been for the last 30 years they are about played out anyway. Hopefully your experience differs, but thats the truth of the matter for a lot of males. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 15044657 United States 12/05/2012 05:12 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | you know, i would typically berate an OP with a question of this type... BUT... this is legitimate. props OP for wanting to go about this the nice way... i understand that just because you love your wife unconditionally doesn't mean you will love every hair style she has. i think the VERY best thing you can do all together is this: Just ride it out this ONE time. don't compliment the hair, but don't talk it down, either. play it safe and just wait a couple months till the color starts to fade and she's needing to either get a cut or recolor and THEN and THEN ONLY you can maybe suggest a hairstyle you think looks good on her.. Say "honey, i think you really look sexy with ____" or whatever. That's it. That's all you can do. You're risking her getting some sort of complex if you say anything about it now, then you're risking her self-esteem, which then, in turn, will risk any kind of sexual encounter you may have wanted to have because you'll have to reassure her she's still attractive... But if this hair cut is what I'm imagining... you may not want to have sexual contact with her for a while. lol That's all. Legit question. Screw everyone else with their lame responses. This is a question you would read submitted to some magazine. This is the answer. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 28867210 United States 12/05/2012 05:16 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP, just be careful. Sometimes honesty can be really hurtful. I work out all the time, am told I look pretty good for my age, I am a size 2 and still weight same as I did when I met my husband (115 lbs) and yet he will tell me my flaws. as much as I like honesty, sometimes I lay awake in bed at night after he falls asleep. I know I am not as pretty or perfect as some of the other women in the world or his co-workers, and I certainly can't compare to the younger women. So as hard as I try to stay well preserved, it is absolutely devastating to be told that a certain part of your body is lacking or does not measure up to what society says is the ideal. I never told him how bad what he said made me feel because it would only start a fight. But deep down inside I wish just one man would think I am perfect just one time. Its always been a struggle to measure up in this world. There are days I work out twice and skip a meal just to keep myself a size 2 and fit. Because God forbid, I gain a few pounds, then I'd really hear the truth. Hair grows. Keep your mouth shut unless you want to scar her emotionally. |
