What's the best Red and White Wine for under $40.00
My brothers friend did us a favor, by hosting us (showers and a bed), at his house, when I had no hot water and my brother had no electricity and no hot water for over 3 weeks at houses in Long Island, NY.

And now I want to get him a gift of Wine, so what's the best Wines (White and Red), as I (and my Brother) stayed at his house for over 6 days..

Need advice on best wine under $40.00, a red and white wine for a gift of appreciation..

I applaud your getting a good bottle of wine for your brother.

B4 I read your post I was gonna flame ya......I drink Box-O-Wine for $15.98 for 5 liters.

But he deserves a good one for his hospitality- that's for sure.

It's good to have family.

Merry Christmas!

Check out wine.woot.com Some very good deals. I buy often as gifts and always get shown the love from the giftees. I don't actually drink wine either. Anything from [link to www.redzeppelinwinery.com] has also been a hit and for Syrah go to [link to www.mccleanvineyard.com] which as I am to understand is the best in world.

Hope that helps:)

Go to Walmart and buy Oak Leaf (Chardonnay for White) and the Merlot for Red (Oak Leaf as well). They are both around $3.00 yes three dollars per bottle.

I bought one to cook with and decided to try it and have never looked back. The chardonnay is even better as it warms up about ten minutes out of the fridge. They have also won several awards- look it up.

IMHO these are the best for the buck, beats many of the $40+ bottles easily.

If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they always have fun, quirky and unique wines at a reasonable price...no matter how inexpensive the bottle, Trader Joe's always seems to find really nice wines. They have people there that are knowledgeable about wine and won't steer you wrong, and you won't have to spend a ton to give a respectable gift.

Trader Joe's has some excellent wine choices.

I like Old Zins and Malbecs. One can find some really good wines (90+ points) at a decent price point of $15 or so.

The Prisoner by Orin-Swift is an amazing red that should retail for around $35. I own a wine shop in Louisville,KY. Trust me, this is the kind of wine that anyone who tries it will know they're drinking something special. Hope that helps.

I believe what you're looking for is called "Bottle of Pussywater".

You'd be better off getting him a bottle of Jim.

Biltmore Estate wines are excellent in both red and white and can probably be shipped for near 40. They are also interesting because the wine comes from the largest home in America.

Most Chilean wines are very good. For something really special in red look for Chilean Castello De Diablo Cabernet Sauvignon. 2009 was an excellent year. For a white try a Pouilly Fuissé from Macon in France. You should be able to get either for well under $40.

If you would like to try a really nice inexpensive Zinfandel, try Oakridge wineries out of Lodi. Very nice for the money, tastes like a more expensive wine. Total Wine carries it.

The ones with the highest alcohol content! lol

seriously they do taste the best.

And I've noticed that they're being watered down and getting harder to find. Just like everything else in our life, it's being corrupted, is my guess.

Both red wines.....I don't drink white wines...

Chateau la Pointe Pomerol.

This is an amazing bottle of wine...ALWAYS.
They go from $30 a bottle on up...depending on year.
(the $30-$40 bottles need to be put away for like 5 years before drinking to be their best)

Jadot Chambertin Grand Cru ... always great as well...but even more pricey.

I'm not sure if he prefers sweet wines but olive garden's moscato is damn good for 24 a bottle. Also, tabor hill's white Demi-sec is my personal fav. its a staple at the white house and its only 7 a bottle. good stuff. but its only in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois.
