Interesting point.

My uncles that smoked lived well into their 80s, as did my Grandpa (also a smoker), my Grandmother, not a smoker, although she lived with smokers - also lived well into her 80s.

My aunt that didn't smoke died in her 70s, from cancer, cursing those goddamned smokers that lived longer than her.

My dad passed in his 60s - ate up with cancer - but he was also around during some of those early nuclear explosions during WWII. I swear, I saw his health grow far worse after he listened to the doctors.

My experience was the opposite. The smokers in my family all developed either lung cancer, severe COPD, and heart disease with blocked arteries. 3 male members of my family that were heavy smokers died slow, painful deaths in their late 60's and early 70's. Your family must have had good genes.

Question - did their slow, painful deaths come under a doctors hand - you know, chemo and radiation - or did they stick it out and meet their faith?

No, disrespect intended - just damned curious.

well with COPD there are no radiation treatments, nothing but oxygen machines, breathing treatments, tracheotomies, lung reduction surgery if able (sadly my Mom was not a candidate because they said her lungs were too far gone) I kinda don't believe that now I think the insurance didn't want to pay) also cpap machines and the constant CO2 levels which can put people in a coma any given second.
so the existence is of which life breathing feels like sucking thru a straw every day until it eventually kills you and is definitely slow and painful no radiation and chemo needed.

also slow and forever mentally painful if you have children who love you and have to see you like that.

I understand that it is not always chemo or "the radiation", but how many pharms? All the folks I know with copd are on a horde of pharms. Hell, my dad carried a tackle box of pharms and that was in 1990 - I can't imagine now - chemo and radiation are not the worst things and if folks are going to docs - I know there are pharms ...

Again, I mean no disrespect and totally understand how it is to be a kid losing your parent too soon, but how many pharms?
