Re: Yes, I smoke ...
So what?

Nat Sherman cigaretellos are a very nice slow burning dessert cigarette.
I love them. I'm on the wagon because I don't smoke one rarely--but tobacco is like sugar and alcohol and caffeine--and sex--an exquisite pleasure some folks can't handle.

But exquisite pleasure, when it doesn't rope uour neck and lead you like a lamb...is exquisite pleasure. Who complains? Not the little lambs.

I will join you when I can...smoke one after Sunday dinner and need to worry about the 18 going stale...

Tobacco is holy. Big Tobacco is unholy.

Grow your own.

Re: Yes, I smoke ...
Turtle I am a smoker as well. Store bought though. I hate that people look down on you for smoking. I try not to judge people so it can get to me when I get judged for smoking. My daughter has had friends whose parents won't let them be friends out of school because the parents have found out I smoke.
 Quoting: Rochelle

Yes, those parents don't want their kids to befriend your kids, but I'd love to look in their medicine cabinet - is a xanax or a valium worse than a cigarette? What about the liquor cabinet? Couple bottles of wine or a bottle of Jack is certainly better than a couple smokes!

Hugs to you and karma hugs smile_hear
 Quoting: Turtles Voice

yeah the most common sentence that comes out of a teens mouth is "where's the liquor?", not where do your parents hide the cigarettes lol.

I know my friends asked that lol

Re: Yes, I smoke ...
Yep i decided to quit as well. I tried juggling smoking and jogging and found they didnt work together. LOL The kew yo quitting is you have to become totaly disgusted by it. In my case i used that tactic and the fact i have a daughter to live for. Im really worried about my mom though. Shes been a heavy smokey for years and Both of her parents died of lung cancer and one of them wasnt even a smoker...
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6409759

Interesting point.

My uncles that smoked lived well into their 80s, as did my Grandpa (also a smoker), my Grandmother, not a smoker, although she lived with smokers - also lived well into her 80s.

My aunt that didn't smoke died in her 70s, from cancer, cursing those goddamned smokers that lived longer than her.

My dad passed in his 60s - ate up with cancer - but he was also around during some of those early nuclear explosions during WWII. I swear, I saw his health grow far worse after he listened to the doctors.
 Quoting: Turtles Voice

My experience was the opposite. The smokers in my family all developed either lung cancer, severe COPD, and heart disease with blocked arteries. 3 male members of my family that were heavy smokers died slow, painful deaths in their late 60's and early 70's. Your family must have had good genes.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21100567

Your family could have been exposed to something in the environment, you know there were a lot of experiment done on people. No one read when they pump gas in their car, it says that gas is a known cancer causing agent. Have they said any thing about that. Mill worker have gotten a lot of lung cancer and people who worked in the automotive industry. I could go on but you might get the idea.

I forgot margarine is one of the thing that will clog arteries, the change from a natural diet to man made products, is a big thing in heart disease. I have been reading about their experiment on people without them knowing. It was a change in their diet changes.

BTW, for all of those dumb asses who tell you..."smoking will kill you!" Here is the truth:

4% of all non-smokers get lung cancer.

8% of all smokers will get lung cancer.

The anti-smoking crowd acts like, "OMG, you took a puff on a cigarette...you'll be dead in a few minutes!" Total BS!

Those who like to lie with statistics will tell you...smoking increases your chances of getting lung cancer by 100%....yeah...that is relatively, because 8 is 100% bigger than 4....now looking at it absolutely...1 in 25 not smoking get lung cancer, 1 in about 13 smokers get lung cancer.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24011342

hugs

Love reason!

But I think the statistics may be a little misinterpreted. Because any death from a smoker - any death - even if they are 96 and smoked at some point in their life is called due to smoking.

I actually think, if truth were told, the instances of non-smokers getting lung cancer is higher than smokers - why else did they come up with the second-hand smoke thing - which the researchers called them on the carpet about, but didn't stop the media from reporting. And now there is third hand smoke. "Don't buy a used car from a smoker - it'll kill you and your kids!!"

And I'm sure you are familiar with the cancer society - that if you survive the chemo for five years - and die the next day, they add that to the stats of survival - not encompassing what that chemo did to your body and how you suffered.

I hate the world, btw, but thanks for adding input

hardly anthing more harmful than smoking...recent research showed it affects memory and brain function dramatically as well, not just the lungs/arteries

smoked for 6 years, quit 11 years ago and don't regret it, but really liked it when I smoked. Went from Javaanse Jongens 3/4 to Van Nelle medium, while all the while smoking loads of reefers :D

Both my parents were smokers. My mother smoked pall mall straights from age 20, died at 86. Father preferred cigars and pipes, glass of rum & coke between his legs for driving and died thanksgiving last year age 94.
My cat died at 14 from cancer (liver) I still cry about that when I smoked around him...doc said probably the Proban, his lungs are clear.
I smoke American Spirits..previously dunhills until england began making them in singapore (chalk flavored).

I don't smoke inside btw, clothes, everything is clean & fresh. I think we should bring back rooms just for smoking.

I'm not an indoor smoker either. But I agree about those rooms. It's like when you travel and you go in that room at the airport to smoke. Odd thing is I can't ever smell smoke outside of those rooms. The suctioning of the room is incredible. But I dislike how they tend to make them glass encased so that all the non smokers get to stare at you as if your in the zoo or something.

I smoke store bought menthols. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a bag Of something organic and papers....thx to this thread. I know how to roll my own. Wink wink nudge nudge :)

Something else about me - I had open heart surgery this past August. I am 49 yrs old. I have smoked since I was 15.

My surgery was due to a bad aortic valve. Bad since birth only it wasn't discovered until a week before surgery. Before surgery they tested my arteries, including the carotid in my neck. All were clear as a bell. I had a lung test where you pant then blow as hard as you can and lungs were clear. I smoke a little over a pack a day, 34 yrs.

Am I just lucky? I won't stay lucky if I keep taking all the medications I'm on now. Blood pressure, cholesterol, synrthroid (they radiated my thyroid last year when they THOUGHT I had Graves Disease!) and Coumadin to name a few. Top that off with some nice carpet glue (news to me!) and I'll be lucky to make it another year! I'm a walking chemical plant!

So...poo poo on the smoking clogs your arteries and please someone recommend a good loose tobacco for a menthol smoker.

Great thread!

Oh, one more thing. I work for a hospital. Not in it but paid by them. Starting jan 1st they will not hire anyone who smokes. Period. They are screening for tobacco in all candidates with a blood test.

Last I knew, it wasn't illegal. Isn't that discriminatory? What people do in their homes is their business. What's next, alcohol?? I understand its a hospital but that's ridiculous.

You can add your own menthol and adjust it to taste. You just put the tobacco in with the menthol crystals and it picks up the flavor. I know someone who makes mentholated weed like this, its amazing. You need very little menthol.

There are all kinds of flavors you can add: [link to www.seedman.com]
Half a pound of menthol is about $20 so its quite economical.

Also, I would like to point out to everyone that can't smoke in their apartment or workplace. You can vape tobacco, just like weed. This allows you to conserve tobacco, and consume it stealthily

Flouride works the exact opposite of nicotine in the brain on acetylcholine.

Chronic fluoride toxicity decreases the number of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors in brain.

Chronic exposure to nicotine has been reported to increase the number of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChRs) in brain.

The rat pineal gland contains a high density of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs).

The current old-age record holder is Jeanne Calment, a Frenchwoman who died in 1997 at the age of 122, after smoking for nearly 100 years.

hmmmmm - all of these facts can be googled. Maybe nicotine is not welcome in the dumbing down agenda? Fluoride is, though.

Might I also recommend that you keep it in an air tight container so it does not go bad. Otherwise it is not economical. In fact if you keep what you think you will need for the day separate from the rest it will lower the amount of times you have to expose it to air.
