EPA, under the Clean Water Act, require all states governor's to formulate a plan the clean up and protect the flow of water in their state's water basins.

... It sounds like Nebraska has sucked up more than its share of water from neighboring states and must make up the difference.

Done deal, pipeline plans underway for water farm

A pipeline will be laid as soon as possible in the “water farm” project in southern Lincoln County.

Officials want to get the pipeline in operation by June 2013. They will meet Monday in McCook to consider an engineer for the project.

The project, which officially began just six weeks ago, will convert the largest crop farm in Nebraska to a farm from which only water will be harvested.

Conservation officials officially bought the $83 million in farmland Tuesday. The water will be pumped, piped and ditched into two major Nebraska rivers.

The deal will help Nebraska meet agreements with surrounding states and the federal government for river flows in the Platte and Republican rivers, Kent Miller of the Twin Platte Natural Resources District said.

The farm, formerly known as Lincoln Farm and before that as Oppliger Farms, was one of the largest crop farms in Nebraska. Located in southern Lincoln County, it consists of 117 center-pivot irrigated crop fields, most of which cover half of a square mile.

...a continual assault to destroy family owned farms soas to make them so expensive to continue their respective operations they will sell out to Corporations like Archer Daniels Midland and Con Agra etc....that way the TPTB can control the agriculture.
Same as when all the family owned gas and service stations on every corner have disappeared..and the private banks, grocery stores.

Bets on how long the aquifer lasts before drying up.....and sinkholes start popping up everywhere?

The only way to grow corn in western NE is to irrigate. It's all sand.

They have taken more that their share of river and ground water from states around them trying to grow corn in the sand hills

I wonder if fracking is behind it. It seems to be booming everywhere & it does take lots of water.
