When I was teaching my kids to drive, they always felt they had to go faster if someone was tailing them too close. I always said, "Forget about them. Let them go around you. They get the ticket, not you."

Legally you're only supposed to pull into the intersection if you do not have to stop to make the turn. If you stop in the intersection you are making an illegal turn. Read your driver's manual. It's in there. No need to guess or make rules up yourself.

Depends on where you live. When I lived in California it was not illegal, but according to a previous post on here now every single intersection in the state with a traffic light that you can make a left turn at has an arrow? I'm not saying that isn't true, but thats a big change since I lived there. I orginally learned how to drive in Arizona and in drivers ed they taught you to pull part way into the intersection to wait, everyone there did it, no problem. I think it all depends on where you live. I live in Florida now, its not illegal here, or at least it is not enforced, but I notice a lot of people don't do it and I always figured that is because most people where I live are from the northeast and I figure its not done there?

I am in Nebraska and I totally agree with you!!!!The drivers here are crazy especially in the country but also in town!My husband is constantly telling me to get out into the intersection but I won't do it unless vehicles are at a stop already on both sides of me!!!!!!Things are so crazy here that trucks and cars are careening off the streets and driving INTO houses.A guy in bed ended up with a truck on top of him a month or two ago....I kid you not!!!!!!

In Florida it is illegal to go into the intersection and wait.

You have to be able to make the complete turn in one motion.

In VA, MD, DC everyone pulls into the middle of the intersection and waits until the turn can be completed so it took some getting used to doing it the other way.

I believe FL's way of doing it results in fewer accidents.

The other way often results in a blocked view of oncoming traffic because someone is also in the lane from the opposite direction.

II use my flasher real quick on and then off. They think I've hit the brakes. LOL. But I'm still going the same speed, so they get left behind as they hit their brakes.

Never trust an aggressive (read asshole) driver...it doesn't matter how "sweet" they might seem outside of their car. They are being assholes because they are selfish and think that since the other driver doesn't know him (her) it's somehow OK to be a jerk. And whatever you do, don't marry the person because they will "act" nice until the marriage and then pow. So long as they don't think there are repercussions, they will be nasty to their spouse and kids as well.

And another thing. When coming up to a light and planning on going straight, get the f over so someone can get through on the right. I'm tired of u ladies hogging the lane. Just today I had to wait 37 seconds longer before making a right hand turn. I cudda taken a piss and checked my email with that time!

I'll admit I'm not the greatest driver - I was visiting the big city and got stuck in the middle of an intersection waiting to turn, but so many damn cars just kept going thru AFTER the light turned that I didn't have the chance! I thought that was it for me, UGH horrible.

Oh my gosh. I've been noticing this phenomenon increasing lately. And its NOT only women doing it.

Somehow, people think that theyre safer if they dont drive into the intersection. Meanwhile, they are texting waiting for the light to change. And instead of THREE people making a left turn...only one makes it thru.

It infuriates other drives when I do. When my daughter does it & a cop sees her, he gives her a disgusted look BUT she is in the right.

Thats funny. People in the Northeast are clueless about any rules or etiquette or such with regards to how or when to take left turns. Up here you learn to expect someone to turn at a moments notice, randomly irregardless of the silly colored lights hung up on poles. It's an easier system to remember when you are drunk.
