Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Quick poll in the name of honesty and safety .........

Tailgaters are:

a) Ignorant of basic physics: speed, distance and mass.
b) Good slaves fearful of their owners wrath.
c) Remnants of schoolyard bully culture.
d) Hard cases in thought but in deed are too soft to overtake on blind corners and double lines.
e) Extremely impatient people that believe their needs are greater than that of other motorists.
f) All of the above.

In your response if any, complete it with the correct answer if you can honestly self reflect in a realist way.

I am aware of real, non fear [False Evidence Appearing Real] based, exemptions yet we do have the ability to flash lights and sound the horn.

I don't do it, so not sure if you want my answer or not. I believe A has a lot to do with it, but all of the above is probably true.

If you slow down while they are not noticing, and are too close, what was in the past may become what is dealt with in the present. And if it children you have in the back ......
you would not mind, because it is in the past? ......
Every answer I appreciate.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
I just dab the brakes lightly a few times, just enough to trigger the brake lights, usually they (tailgaters)drop back a bit.

I would say those that tailgate are over confident and impatient.

I used to drive airport taxis and the accidents I have seen on the woodhead pass and the snake pass make you realise how weak cars are at high speeds when hitting trees and walls and indeed each other.

Fuck rushing around,it's not worth it,you get stressed and make stupid mistakes.

The snake and woodhead are two roads that cross the pennines from sheffield to manchester, they have claimed many lives.

cheers

Thanks Paul.
So A and E seem to be prevalent to the unaware while the rest are more likened to those with an intimidation mindset.
Interesting
I am with you on the non rush attitude, what is it for?
And the older you get, the more you understand of it because we have been in the same position ourselves and have learnt the futility of it. Some need harder lessons to comprehend it seems while others a small fright is enough to gain cognition.

The only time I get real impatient when I'm driving is when people don't know that THE FUCKING LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING. grumpy2

Even then though, tail gating doesn't accomplish anything.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Tailgaters may be a more real danger to our lives than any imagined terrorists, yet what is done about tailgating?
Because.
Keeps the smash repairs going, car sales, the funeral industry, the emergency/response guys n gals, road maintenance, cmon, use mind and you get the picture, endless streams of supply and demand, all taxable aye.
Movies at times show it is cool too, for the young and easily influential who cannot yet fathom the real life complications of the action until it wrecks lives.

Won't change though.
Ever.
I know what this place is.

Best response so far IMO is the let em pass choice, if there is substantial room enough for it.

And where are the walkways between towns, areas etc. They could tax that too, and patrol it and maintain it and tax them doing so too. Only motorists can travel freely <<< lol @ freely.

/sigh

If you speed up they generally get less angry. Thats how you influence their attitude.

I'll tailgate someone who is in the fast lane doing 72 mph, especially if they are on their phone.

Then they are influencing you, I stay at the limit, which is supposedly a safety guideline for all the types of vehicles using the road. So to speed up I am increasing chance of paying revenue to the boys and girls in blue and risking death due to dodgy roads @@.
Doesn't help. But I get what you are saying, if in reason.

People can pretend to be nice to you in person......but you see their real inner nature out on the highway.......while they are in their "protected" little shells.

Drivers:

One third.......nasty people.......within their core.

One third.......nice people.....considerate of others.

One third.......brain impaired

(sleep deprivation, old age, excessive and various chemicals withing the body and brain, etc.etc.)

Gets worse every year out there on the roads.

Be careful.......and drive in a defensive manner.

Just assume that 2 out of 3 cars out there has a maniac behind the wheel.

Is it really that hard to move to the right lane (or left in if you're not from NA)?

Why is it the tailgaters fault?

Answer the following survey.

If you drive too slow on purpose, or drive beside another car doing the same speed, tap your brake lights b/c you dont want to change lanes yet I'm a foot off your ass and I really dont care about red lights in my face, you are:

a) a complete idiot who values control of other peoples time through the use of roadways
b) a pompous ass who considers themselves to be in right, at all times
c) an arrogant cheese dick bastard who has a gutless car and thinks all people who drive high perforamce vehicles are CO2 emitting assholes (and we are)
d) a woman. and probably old

Its give and take slow pokes.

My advice - listen to classical music and simply view other drivers are mentally disabled children than need to be carefully managed.

(e) trying to teach the person patience, courtesy and proper manners.

(So many pour souls have been raised in Day Care Centers)

Tail gaiters and frequent lane changers cause many accidents.......kill people. They do not learn from seeing dead people laying about after an accident either......and the madness just continues.

That is why driving is one of the most dangerous activities out there........second only to going into battle during wartime.
