Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Is it really that hard to move to the right lane (or left in if you're not from NA)?

Why is it the tailgaters fault?

Answer the following survey.

If you drive too slow on purpose, or drive beside another car doing the same speed, tap your brake lights b/c you dont want to change lanes yet I'm a foot off your ass and I really dont care about red lights in my face, you are:

a) a complete idiot who values control of other peoples time through the use of roadways
b) a pompous ass who considers themselves to be in right, at all times
c) an arrogant cheese dick bastard who has a gutless car and thinks all people who drive high perforamce vehicles are CO2 emitting assholes (and we are)
d) a woman. and probably old

Its give and take slow pokes.

Why is it the tailgaters fault? Because they are the one at the wheel.

a) Control of others time....Why are you rushing so? Good slave? So good your spare time is incredibly short and you must press others [controlling] to go beyond the speed limit?
b) What is pompous about doing the safe thing and wanting a maintained safety area between cars?
c) Most cars can go the limit, I am talking about the closeness of the cars, the high performance car drivers are endangering others who do not value the race course mentality on the roads we all share...arrogance?
d) Don't want all the women flaming, but as I have a hatred towards tailgating I always take not of what the person behind me is doing, and aye, alot of the times it is a woman and she is combing hair, checking herself in the mirror, or on the phone .... so many married women websites, poor slaves think she be at home cooking.

/ducks the wrath of the womenfolk.
I know, I know, minorities right.
So many married women web sites ......

That person that you are tail-gating could blow out a tire at any moment. And because you have not allowed proper distance......and perhaps also are talking on your cell phone......you will ram into their rear end......and kill a few 5 year olds while you are at it.

Driving above the speed limit is against the law......whether there are cops around or not.

The only time I get real impatient when I'm driving is when people don't know that THE FUCKING LEFT LANE IS FOR PASSING. grumpy2

Even then though, tail gating doesn't accomplish anything.

Seriously tho, high performance vehicle drivers can do what they want on an open road, as soon as they come to another car doing the limit or even slower, they can stay at a safe distance until they get a chance to overtake, or an overtaking lane, and off they go again .. rinse and repeat. If the traffic is congested tailgating wont solve a thing. Anything otherwise is arrogance and unsafe and as I said earlier, if it is an emergency you can flash your lights and sound the horn, I'm sure most people will pull aside if you do this.

So to pay half price fuel, people [usually kids in the back]can die for all you care?
I doubt you don't care if people die for your saving money, that would show your master.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Coming home from a friends house last week I was the victim of a tailgater. I was on a winding country road at night when I came up to a pick up truck driving slow. I settled back and gave him some space as I was only 6 miles from home. Then another car came up behind me and drove just a few feet from my bumper.
The pick up put his breaks on so I put mine on. The car behind me didn't like this so he put on his high beams. He was still a few feet from my bumper.
The first chance , I pulled over and let him by. He then was on the trucks bumper with his high beams on. He past the truck on a hill in a no passing zone. He could of killed himself and others. I don't know what his problem was.
I would vote c and e.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Tailgaters don't cause accidents. Teen age females with cellphones cause accidents. Just look at insurance reports. Funny that women cause the vast majority of wrecks but pay lower insurance.

If someone is tailgating you, and its on the freeway, then you need to get out of the way. If its on a 2 lane hwy, then they are an asshole. Unless you are going slow then it is you who is the asshole.

I passed some Asian kid in a rice burner once cause he was doing like 10 mph looking for an address or something. He got pissed and started riding my bumper so I slammed the brakes and he hit me. We both got out and he aggressively ran at me so I popped him in the jaw and he dropped like a sack of rocks. Some people just need to be bitch smacked.

But if you're driving slow in the left lane refusing to get over then it is you who need to be smacked. Be careful cause people nowadays will get your plates and fuck you up. It's not your concern how fast others drive. You are not a cop and if you're trying to slow them down you're taking a big risk. Just get your ass over in the senior citizens lane and relax. Let the go getters race by.

Tailgathers are sociopaths. Sociopaths feel free on the road to be themselves - they have a sense of anonymity. I know someone who is a sociopath and they tailgate and scare the hell out of other drivers with their road rage. Knowing this person has taught me to be as careful as possible when driving to avoid offending any other motorists - and to always be humble and apologetic. Sociopaths let loose on roads. Take one on and who knows what they might do

I have only been tailgated by men. They are impatient and immature drivers. The only reason men don't have more accidents is because they have faster reflexes. Men who tailgate are just a certain brand of stupid.huffy

Men tailgate because they are in a hurry. Women tailgate because they have no depth perception or spacial judgement. It's why you don't see female airline captains.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Here's how to handle tailgaters: Let them get real close and switch on the 4-way flashers and take your foot off the gas. Now they think you have an emergency and you do. You have over a half ton of metal inches off your bumper going 70mph. With the car slowing down, they have a hard time passing and it pisses them off more. Maybe they will learn not to get so close the next time.

Re: Tailgaters [those who follow too close whilst driving]
Strange that tailgating people get out and seek to enter combat when they have shown they are angry and losing self control, a no no in combat, and lack the understanding of speed, distance and space, which may show they are more easily overcome. But that wouldn't help a majority of victims of tailgating as they may be frightened/old/physically disadvantaged compared to tailgater etc. They brandish weapons also at times.

Best advice is let them go, from the majority of responses seen here and personal experience.

Seen a lady who was obviously frightened of the truck 2 feet from her bumper on the highway [my driveway enters the highway so I see it a lot], gave the truck driver a siren signal above my roof to make him think the police where up the road but he seemed like a zombie, half asleep and slumped at the wheel. Deadlines make headlines ....

See many bumper stickers, on cars, that says "If trucks stop, Australia stops". Id'e add to that: stops polluting, causing accidents and feeding middle med from outside their community. But that would just make me out to be a smart ass to most :(

Thanks for letting me get some feedback for the increasing frustration I feel about this and acknowledge the fact that walkways and pushbike lanes for people seeking an alternative to the madness may never come to be.
